Message Forum Upgrade coming

Ok, boomer. :D

I just hope you can find somebody with some design skills to design not only an elegant template, but one in good taste (not splattered with Pac-Man symbols everywhere like a lot of arcade sites, etc.)

My one gripe with this site is that the current design always reeked of the year 2001. And despite the upgrade in software, the new site's giving me the same feeling... and even worse, I'm not used to it.

Not a fan at all thus far... hopefully with some getting used to it it'll work out.

But yes, a good theme would make all the difference. Multiple, for users to select from. Light and dark.

Designing your own probably won't please the masses (it takes a lot of skill and precision), I would just sink the little bit of money it takes to buy some good premium themes somebody else designed, or hey, maybe even some free ones.

I think the logo (logos?) also needs a major update. Very old, and I don't think nearly anybody here associates with the guy in the top left or that type of collecting.

I'm hoping the big change will present the opportunity for a major facelift - one that just switching the software doesn't do.

"could end up starting the transition sometime before November 15"

It's unlikely to happen by November 15. 'could' and 'starting' are the keys words. I am in town though and working on prep issues: (a) infrastructure, and (b) getting familiar with XF admin and mod features.

(a) infrastructure. We are working on upgrading all our infrastructure (this site and others that I host) in a multi-month process. A new tech employee starts on Monday which should help. It will be a while before this trickles down to this site (we are starting with simpler issues first), but it is in focus. Just this month along we are exploring over a dozen software packages we haven't used before (ie: Nginx vs apache).

(b) there is still a lot that both I and the mods aren't familiar with, and some forum software behaviors that I don't fully understand yet. I'm working on it though. On the plus side, we continue to work with the makers of forum addons we are using and they are getting better (code base wise).

If you need any more help on something XF specific just let me know. After i messed around with the CSS for KLOV a friend of mine asked me to migrate and make a theme for his site. I have full admin privs to his place and i've been tinkering with it for a few days to get my bearings back.

Other projects are probably prioritized. The migration is a massive time commitment for the team that would perform the task.

I'm dead serious about being thankful the change hasn't happened yet. Im going to miss this old forum software.

I'll post more about this in a new announcement thread later this morning., but in short, there were a number of complications that arose in upgrading the forums that still need to be addressed, and there were some other things to focus on too.

Do you need any technical help?

I think there is a typo in your notices: 5/29/20 Hello lilypad19, .....

Unless you want the migration to be over and for it to be the 29th
(I'm guessing you meant the 19th)
Thanks for all the hard work!
