I just saw this on Ebay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/MERMAID-Got...964?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3376077f74

The highest bid is currently over 12 thousand dollars. Wow. I'm not into pinball enough to know why this machine is sought after, but it must really be rare or desirable. According to the description, it appears that the sale of this pin will fund having fun at the Jersey Shore for the summer. Kind of ironic/sad if you ask me.

That is pretty sad when you could take trip somewhere nice with that kind of money.

I don't know much about Mermaid either, but Google tells me it's pretty rare. According to some threads on Pinside, it seems like the nicer ones can top 20k and even the crappy ones can get 10k. Just a wee bit outside of my price range, don't know about you.

I wouldn't pay that kind of money for ANY pin with that kind of playfield wear...hell I wouldn't pay that much for any pin period.

Mo money, less brainz...

more negativity from north of the border

Q: what's that old saying ?
A: if you don't have something good to say, don't say anything at all

think it's a beautiful pin. glad i could see pictures of it at the very least
probably all i'll ever see and thankful i saw it

Wooden Legs?

Not to thread jack, but it didn't make sense to start a new thread.

Is there a way to find/search for what machines have wodden legs?

Mr. CAST

Machines manufactured from 1960 and earlier had wood legs. Machines made 1961 and later had metal legs.

actually that's incorrect. go to this web site:
http://www.pinrepair.com/gtb
there's a chronological order of features for gottliebs. changed from wood to metal legs happened in late 1955/early 1956.
Williams followed that trend too with metal legs in 1956.

One of these sold for $22K restored. I'm sure whoever is bidding is gonna do a restore and try to make a quick couple grand on it. That being said, that playfield is way too WRECKED to garner a $14,000 bid IMO. Pretty insane if this turns out to be real.

Weird, never knew this game was sought after
