I'm trying something new... let me know what you think.

The 'New Posts' menu tab used to show all messages. Then I changed it quite some time ago so it didn't include anything from the Politics section.

Today I changed 'New Posts' to 'New (All)', and added a 'New (Arcade)' which omits not only the Politics section but also the Chat About Anything and Laughs section.

The theory is that some people love the Chat About Anything Section, and some just want to stick to the coin-op topics.

This test only shows up in the standard template, not the black background ones.

Nice change. While I will still view all, I think the option is a good one.

Nice to see a forum where the mods care and do things to make it a better place to be.

Good work!

Chris

Personally when I first saw it I didn't know what it was because you removed "Posts" so it's a little vague now. I'll continue using the "all" option so the addition of the other one isn't a big deal to me personally. However, I think it would be far better to have just one "new posts" link which you can customize to include whatever forums you want, like if all you care about is General, For Sale, and Wanted. I'm sure that's a lot harder to do though. I like the fact that you're trying to make this a better place. :)

- I actually might end up going back to 'New Posts' but making it so you can customize what sections appear in the list for you...

- It says 'New (Arcade)' and 'New (All') instead of 'New Posts (Arcade)' etc to save screen space. At smaller resolutions the menu bar begins to wrap off the edge of the screen and really really doesn't work well.

- I'm curious to hear if anyone really ends up using both tabs. I could see using 'All' when one has more time, and 'Arcade' when one has less time. If no one (or too few) use both tabs, then I can move it back to 'New Posts' and allow people to set customized forum section filters.

I have been using both tabs but I like your idea of going back to New Posts and make it so we can customize it. To be honest I don't even search by individual sections, I always use the new posts feature.

Ok... I've decided to give up on keeping pages agreeable to screen sizes of 800x600. So I changed 'New' to 'New Posts' again on the menu bar.

It works fine on a 1024x768 screen (or larger), and I tested it on the iPad too (works fine).

As far as letting users customize the 'New Posts' tab on an individual basis... I'll likely do this at some point but some point is likely months away--There are too many other tasks in queue already.
