Good day to all,

Recently i purchased 2 "broken" MegaTouch XL6000, both were in working condition but the seller tried switching the pc's,
Why you wonder...one (1) has a few little almost invisible scratches on the screen and number two (2) was just completely reseted and had a nice screen and housing/decals.

After his attempt they both did not work anymore. Then he switched everything back and one (1) now had a : System Disk Failure.
Meanwhile number one (1) works again after some intense cleaning and reconnecting every connector. ( Ok switched O/I board/raiser/EPROM/CD-Drive/Ribbon Cable ) with the two but now it boots and PLAYS!

Now with number two (2) first it did absolutely nothing but also after a nice cleaning service and checking every connection it boot up!!
But with an error : CMOS Battery Fail .... , hmmm ok should have thought of that before but replaced it with a brand new CR2032.
Power On... CMOS setting fail... so i corrected the time and date, loaded default settings, checked boot order (C,A) and then saved and exit.

Machine reboots itself and no longer CMOS error but at the point that the self-test normally starts and starting the .exe all i see is a complete BLACK screen, CD-Drive spinning and a popping sound from the speaker, every 2-3 seconds....I let it on for about 1 hour and still nothing.

Like i said i switched a couple of things with the working one :
I/O Board ( including EPROM: SA3014-04 and key
Raiser
CD-Drive
IDE-Ribbon cable
RAM Memory

Still the same BLACK screen, however good to know that the other machine runs with all the switched items.
I also hooked up an external screen for testing ( in stead of the TATUNG CRT monitor ), the screen has an external power supply so plugged in MB and wall socket.
Flip the switch ... and still the same... only this screen reports a message saying :
Check input signal connection. then it also goes black and nothing happens.

Is there still somebody out there who has some info or suggestions, after hours and hours of trying and looking up pieces of info on the net i hope i can get this thing to work again.

Many thanks in advance,

Remco

Chances are the cdrom is going bad - I think I've seen this with the one I have, and running a new cdrom fixed it.

That crossed my mind as well.
Mentioned swapping just about everything except the CD itself.
Sounds like the motherboard is posting up and running the bios and all that then quitting when it goes to read the disc.

Thanks a lot for your responses!
Wow i was happy to see some response,
But back on the story ;)
In one of the machines there was one original disc and in the other one there was a burned disc. First thing i did after i got one working was copying the original disc.
And the working machine just plays all the 3 discs fine.
So of course i also swapped the disc in the machines
( just 5 minutes ago again.. just for trying ) but still the same issue.

I've read almost every troubleshooting guide concerning multiple megatouch models, tech2007, tech2008. Nothing similar to my problem....

Just to help out, show you what happens i made a short clip ( 2min. ) what happens, also with loading defaults.
Hope this will clarify it a little :

Many thanks so far!

Hmmm.... surprised it doesn't come up with an error of any kind after the initial post. (missing OS, HDD failure, CDDRIVE, etc)

It's not something like the physical jumpers telling it where to look for the OS is it?
(CD or HDD)

Well I still meant the disc, it was mentioned that the drive had been swapped. :)
But it seems both have been tried now at this point.

Ok in the meanwhile i did some work and removed the MB completely and spotted some corrosion on the back..!
Thought that i found it... so cleaned it with a soft brush and after that with a "cleaning-stick". Gave it a complete clean and visual check and did not find anything else.
So reinstalled it checked every connector and jumper on it...referring to boot to CD-Drive or HDD-Drive.
Cleaned the RAM, Raiser, I/O Board etc.

And then after plugging everything in, changing discs as-well ( with know working one ) and after boot still the same.

Also i like to mention that all DIP switches are in off position,
Fans are working in Power supply and cabinet
while booting there is no sound, no BEEPS,
But while the black screen comes on the speaker begins to pop every 2-3 seconds...
Procedures i tried extra :
i tried booting without a disc and no change ,
booting without CD-Drive connected ( reads no drive, duh ) but no change,
Booting with I/O Board disconnected ( slot and plugs ) no change.
Booting with brand new Samsung DVD-drive no change.

I was thinking to do an upgrade on the working one to HDD but is that maybe a solution for this problem..

Regards,
Remco

( Ps. i 'm from Holland and was looking around on this forum for a while but sorry...shame on me never took the time to register and introduce myself... here a short edit.
owing at the moment :
2 x Megatouch XL6000 Cabinet
Photoplay ( probably 2000 but sits in the corner waiting for repair ... ;) )
Barcrest Hot Stuff gambling machine
Indiana Jones ( wall model )
Williams Baracorra pinball
Royal Flush Butterfly amusement machine
...and two more but its late and dont know the exact names.
Well thats it for now and again MANY THANKS for everyones help so far! )

Starting to sound more motherboard related somehow.
So you have one machine working now.....(?)
Have you swapped riser card, key, cd drive and such over to that unit to verify each external piece?

BTW - Welcome to the forum. There's a few other folks from Holland on the boards, good people. :)
I should have took notice that you were from Holland, but it's been a past couple hectic days as we're preparing to head over to Holland to visit my fiance's family. (I've never been there) Her mother lives near Breukelen I believe.

Yes i have one working machine, and i swapped almost everything in between and the working one is still working and the other one not...
Except the power supply and mb, so mb is the best outcome so far.
However it just boots fine and i can enter the BIOS and edit ( as you can see in the video )

So i thought i would compare the boot with the working one and also made a video of that, untill the "Megatouch" splash.
You can see in the video that the working one goes to system configurations right at the moment the not working one goes to a black screen.
I also include a screen-cap.

Video (Boot-up of working one ) :

Screen-cap ( of point where black screen appears ) :

Also again changed discs, I/O board + raiser but still no change ( in both, working one still working :) )

Thank you for welcoming me, cool that there are more dutchmen around here ;)
Wow what a small world, lol, you coming over to Holland. It's pretty nice out here this time of year, weather wise.
But i know Breukelen but live pretty far from there, i live in Noord Brabant, near Tilburg/Breda.
Ps.
Congrats with your 1000 posts!

I'm not quite sure where to go from here..... but things to note and maybe try.

1. I noticed it still shows the CDROM drive as a slave, maybe try to get it seen as Primary. (even though the other one boots fine in that configuration)
2. Try a second ribbon cable to the CDROM drive.
3. I can't recall if those motherboards have a second IDE port, but if so try that.
4. Try swapping the RAM around.

It looks like it gets ready to read the OS from the CD drive and then just dies.
That is a Telco 486 motherboard isn't it ?
I have one around, but it's packed away so I can't really play with it to try and reproduce your problem.

Congrats with your 1000 posts!
Hmmm...... didn't realize I talked so much. :)

I'm trying to map out a few of the members I met on the forums that live over in Holland and "might" get a chance to meet up a couple. (just depends on how hectic the family visits are)

Ok mean while there have past a couple off days, and the working one is now fitted with 4 nice little wheels and is out off the shed into the house :D

And off course it was not a big of deal but we did want to be careful with the complete pc guts of the machine while laying on his back so we lifted it carefully out of the machine to make sure nothing would happen to it.

Moment off truth when we flipped the switch back in on position and yes it gave some errors!
Disk Boot Failure, then :
Dallas Key Mismatch,
No NVRAM....
So opened it up again, disconnected everything ( connector and EPROM etc. )
and after a few tries it works again.

So back to the NOT working one,
as you may possible understand i'm a bit afraid to open up the working one and swap MB's around.
So i tinkered i little around again with the machine.
Although i already did a couple of things i tried it again.
Swap around with working one :
I/O Board ( complete )
Raiser board
RAM memory
Disc Drive
CD Disc
Ribbon Cable

Tried booting without :
CD Disc
Disc Drive connected ( also swapped IDE 1/2 but no change )
I/O Board
Raiser and I/O board
Raiser, I/O board and Disc Drive connected

Tried Booting with 3 different discs, no change
Tried booting without CRT screen plugged in / connected external screen with own power supply.

Although the best change lies with the MB, WHAT on or in the MB could it be.
I mean it boots up just fine, i can enter and change Bios settings. So is there something really 'broken' or is there still a possibility that if i change jumpers around or something simple like that that it will work again.
Cant believe it just died since this or last week since it was in working condition...( according to the sellers delivery guy/middleman..)

Also looked around if i could find a used TELCO 486 mb but nothing i could find!
Maybe one of you guys have one laying around that you dont mind sending to Holland.
I'll cover the S&H of-course ;)

Remco

Meanwhile again a couple of days have past and yes i moved on with the Merit.
Luckily i got my hands on a old Compaq desktop with ISA slots.
So no swapping around with the MB of the WORKING one ;) but i put it in the MB of the Compaq.
After reconnecting the proper connectors and corrected the CMOS and boot order by entering the BIOS. I had a first try with 2 power plugs, 1 for the Compaq MB and the other for the CRT screen, Touchscreen etc. of the cabinet.

As you can see below :

But now when i fire it up it passes the moment of Black screen and continues to boot, load every driver good and when it starts copying files and checks for the cd-key it says :
Error - Invalid Key
after the error it starts copying files again and then the same error, over and over again.

Of-course i cleaned the I/O board, reseated the EPROM, Dallaskey etc.
The first time i tried it it was with the disc it originally came with, then i tried it with the other ones i got but no change.
Maybe meaningful to mention is that when i was still working with the working one, at one point it also came up with an Invalid key error.
Dallas Key mismatch, but then it reloaded the key and booted up.
After that i played fine...but a few days later when i was working on this one ( former black screen ) i wanted to be certain if everything worked OK, EPROM, CD-Key, I/O Board, Raiser and then i replaced everything back to its original place.
So the keys are with the machine's ( disc ) as they came with.

Is it a long shot or a possible solution to try swapping again CD-Key's or will i end up with 2 machine with INVALID KEY ERROR .... ?

Little Bump....

..
.

I hope there is still somebody out there who can help me with this problem.
Meanwhile i also submitted a question at the Merit Tech Support, so i can be sure of everything.

I'd try the working key into that one just to see what happens.
Also try swapping the board the key is on. (the I/O card)
Maybe try plugging the riser into a different ISA slot on the new motherboard.

Sounds like you have made progress with the new motherboard at least.
