I have a megatouch xl extreme unit that has been upgraded to gold. I don't have the numbers on me now, but the U12 has been upgraded and the key matches the merrit gold cd. It's actually an original cd to, not an ebay copy.

I have the mainboard sitting on my test bed with an atx power and I get nothing. Cd spins up, fans spin, but no post. I have a key board hooked up and the lights will flash once on power up. So there is power going through the board. The cpu also starts to warm up. I have removed the memory, cpu, all chips and reseated them. Just not sure where to go from here. I saw something about a -12 ram chip?? Is that cheap? I don't have the telco board. its the other Deameritek or something like that.

From what I can tell, I should be able to boot up the system with just the motherboard power supply and monitor. Is that correct? I would only be able to get to the bios, but I should be getting something

Usually these boards have issues with failed capacitors on the motherboard. They're fixable just not as fun as an older double-sided board. You can get cap kits for them on ebay or the megatouchstore and other places I think. That could be your issue, especially if you physically see any bloated caps on the board.

there aren't many caps on the board, but none of them seem to be bloated at all. They are all flat. They don't have the normal x cut into the tops either, just flat accross the top. is there a way to test them? I do have a couple different dmm just never tested a cap before. Not sure if I'm testing for a short, or voltage.

Looks there is 5 caps on the motherboard. All seem to appear ok. no bloating and not leaking from the bottom. This is an xl mobo, not the telco, but the other one. The board is double sided though. I can see the legs for the caps on the other side.

Not sure if I should test them, and how do I test the tag ram? The -12 ns chip?? I saw somewhere else that someone replaced that. And they were having the same issue with no post.

Personally, when I have a motherboard that won't post...... I unplug EVERYTHING from it except for the monitor and then see what it does.
Pull the ram, unplug the CD drive, etc, etc.

Could be something as simple as the IDE cable plugged in backwards on one end or the other. (have seen it happen)

If you still get no post with everything unplugged, then yeah, it's a motherboard issue.

You mentioned it being upgraded.... is this problem before or after the upgrade ?
(or were you just noting that it was an upgraded extreme?)

Find the jumper to short the CMOS and try it.

If the CMOS gets corrupt it might not boot.

Another thing to try after that is to plug a keyboard in and hold down the Ins key on the number pad while turning it on. Some BIOSes will run with safe hardware settings if you do that. That may let you get into the BIOS long enough to disable internal/external CPU cache. If it works without that cache then re-enable them one at a time.

If internal cache causes lockups replace the CPU.

If external cache causes lockups then replace the cache RAM on the motherboard.

good stuff i will try this tomorrow. I was just noting that it is an upgraded extreme. At the moment I have just the motherboard sitting on my counter with a power supply and monitor. no I/O card or riser installed. But I will try the ins key thing, and try to find the clear cmos jumper. I can't seem to find anything relating to the jumpers on the motherboard. As far as cpu settings and such. Just so I can make sure they are all set right. This unit has never worked for me since I took possesion, so I'm trying to figure out what's going on.

It sounds more like a graphics or display issue rather than a general motherboard problem.

You are getting POST, the keyboard lights and disc drive spinning confirm this.
The keyboard lights are showing that the bios had detected and is testing the keyboard
and the spinning drive indicates that POST has completed and the bios is searching the drive for a bootable program.

The megatouch uses an AT Power supply, so the use of an ATX power supply may be contributing
to your problem.

It's been a while since I last checked my megatouch, but I'm pretty sure that the VGA
graphics adapter may be built into the I/O card, bit I'm at work now, so I'll have to check on that later.

ok. getting somewhere then with info. The vga port is physically on the motherboard. I haven't looked to see if I can spot the vga chip though. I am pretty sure if the ports on the motherboard so is the vga controller. But I could be wrong. I looked on the board and couldn't find a speaker, to see why I don't get the post beeps. Maybe what i really need is the power pinout for the at supply, so I can check that my atx adapter is wired right.

The keyboard flashes no matter what I change. i think the drive is simply spinning because it just got power. But I get no video no matter what I do. With or without the i/o and riser card installed. I have removed every chip and reseated them. I am still trying to figure out what jumper is the clear cmos. there isn't one close to the battery. I did just pop the battery out. I will leave it for a few hours. The cpu does slowly warm up. not that that means much, but at least I know it's getting power.

Well, I'm out of ideas, and it looks like everyone else is too.

It's probably about time to show some detailed pictures of
your setup to show where and how everything is connected.

You never know what a fresh set of eyes might be able to detect.

ok. I have to figure out who has my camera. I will either get it this weekend or borrow someelses and post them this weekend. I don't think my cell camera will be clear enough. Never did find the cmos clear jumper, but the battery has been out for 2 days now and still no change.
