I'm selling a megatouch upright cab and am in a bit of a pickle -- It's got Ruby Maxx on it but it looks like a force that I can bump up, and I've got a spare 2007 force key and software I'm not using.

However, I'm looking to sell to a private owner not an operator, and make a little cash on the machine. What I'm trying to determine is if I'm better off holding onto the 2007 key for another time or resale on its own or if a home buyer will see the value in the Force software over the Ruby Maxx. I'm thinking the typical home user might just want a "megatouch" and not know the difference in the versions anyway and I'd just be wasting the key.

Thoughts? Help me decide!

I think Force can only be installed on another Force. Force ran from 2002-2010.

Maxx (1999-2006) are different. You can only go to Crown (2006) on a Maxx machine.

From what I have read you cant run force on maxx or vice versa.

It was determined I think that the machine I got had a bootleg version of maxx on it, it was an auction piece and the operator (I think) nabbed the force key and found a way to make maxx run on it. The guts are a force and the BIOS even says force when it boots.

That said though assuming I can upgrade it to the Force 2007, do I do it and if so what does that do to the value of the machine assuming it works? Is there a fair asking price for a home use unit running Force 2007.5? And how much more is it worth vs a Maxx Ruby?

I think you are right saying most home users don't know the difference between variations. I doubt you could get a premium by putting your Force key in there.

I bought a force 2005 off the local Craigs List for $200.00. I then sold my XL double platinum on the same Craigs List for $200.00

Same price, two hardware revisions apart. One stuck at 2002, the other can be brought up to 2011.

Thanks, I sort of was thinking along the same lines. I guess it's all relative, but if I'm installing Force on the thing it's more likely only going to get noticed by an operator or reseller vs. a home user -- And I'm probably going to get a better price for the machine from a private user than an op.

I'll probably wait it out a bit with Maxx. Anyone know what kind of resale price the upright cabinets are fetching these days?
