Original Tatung monitor, has dark areas on the screen and low brightness level. Brightness level is maxxed out and contrast has no effect. I have seen one website offering monitors and tubes for sale and saying they have a mod to reduce the heater voltage because high heater voltage is what damages the tube and causes the dark spots. So the question is, does this mod work as advertised and is there something else (such as bad caps) that could be causing the dark spots? Thanks.

I stayed away from the Radion model specifically because I heard of the monitor problems. The fix involves adding an extra resistor somewhere, but I don't know the specifics. I would ask davemanut since he has been able to solve all of my Megatouch problems. He is on here sometimes, but his email is dave@davemanut and he answers emails pretty quickly.

first try rejuvenating the tube.
i have a few radions and when tubes got dark i rejuvenated and they have been fine since.

Thanks for the replies. DaveManUT's website was indeed where I found mention of the heater mod. The puzzling thing about the monitor brightness is that it's not so much a question of overall brightness as it is dark areas in several places. The overall brightness could be a little better, but the dark areas (3 or 4, each maybe an inch or two in diameter) are very dark compared to the rest of the tube. That's something I have never seen before, hence the question about the heater modification and whether this particular problem can be corrected, or if it is permanent tube damage.
