For those who have already helped - much appreciated!

I have a ps2 keyboard. Put new battery on motherboard. checked out the bios settings and *think* I got the settings right.

After saving and booting I get "No operating system found". I assume this is the HDD but I can hear it running. Any advice on troubleshooting/verifying HDD/preferred bios settings for MAXX?

If I replace HDD with ISO image does that affect the key? First megatouch I know this thing is old but it was HUO in great shape would like to bring it back. Thanks for advice!

Anyone have a compact flash solution available?

Did this drive work before?
Does the bios recognize the hard drive?
Is the boot order starting with the hard drive?

Your pretty much answering for me here

1. Unknown bought in bulk deal untested
2. Looks like no
3. Yes

Next steps?

Hmm...
Do you have another ide hdd you could try in there to see if the bios recognizes it?
Is the hdd jumper set to master?
Is the ide cable plugged in to ide slot zero or "pri" on the mobo?

Under Primary Master "None", do you have an "auto" option selectable?
If not, a "user" option? If so can you try changing the translation method/LBA mode whatever its called?

The key does matter but you arent getting that far. I did a couple videos on troubleshooting at least thks boot process and bios etc.

Your mileage may vary.

Thanks I will check all this. HDD spins no clicking or anything hoping after what your saying that the HDD isnt set to auto.

Will report back - possible the image is corrupt?

Cool post your results

So far your working status is unrelated to the "image" or data on the hdd, but the hdd could have failed in a way that would keep the bios from recognizing it (but unlikely)

Regardless of the image, the bios should still recognize the drive. So I would focus on that issue first. Until the bios recognizes the drive nothing else will matter. Recheck your IDE cable and try a different drive if you have one just to see if it comes up.

Thanks guys I found a couple IDE HDD at work Ill take home for additional troubleshooting if needed.

Primary is set to auto. There is a User option. I reseated the ide cable no change. Next I'll pull HDD out not sure how it's actually screwed in there. I'll try a different HDD

It's kind of a pain to remove the old HDD. I would just leave it there for now. Just unplug the IDE cable from the board and connect your other HDD with another IDE cable for now. If it ends up working then you can always do a compact flash conversion later.

Glad I brought 2 ide HDD home. Both spin only one of the ones shows in bios. Went back to original hdd and shows none.

Shows it's Maxx diamond. Looks like I can download iso part 1 and 2. Any instructions out there to burn image? How does key affect/work?

The key just has to be present, and has to be the right version for the software revision (Diamond key for Diamond software, Ruby key for Ruby software) - they aren't individually unique or aren't mated to the HDD or anything.

I've had these before where an op just threw random parts together to make it look complete. Your key should be installed properly on the I/O board, and you might just want to make sure what version it is so that you burn the right image on the HDD. There should be a sticker on the key with a number on it, and I think there are still some sites online that list out all the versions.

I'd like to burn a new copy but not sure the process - requires CD ROM drive?

Easier to just buy one?

Thanks

Yes, it's totally just easier to just buy one, but where is the fun in that?

It's been a while since I've done any of this stuff, but there are basically two ways to write the software to a hard drive. The first way is to get an image/copy of a working drive and burn it directly to the new drive using standard imaging software on your desktop computer.

The second way is to get the Merit install CDs and a CD ROM drive. You hook the CD ROM drive up to the second IDE port on the Megatouch and there is a section in the Bios that lets you perform the update right there from the machine itself.

You can probably find an upgrade manual online that describes the process in more detail.

Thank you sir!

I know where the CD images are could anyone share the hard drive image with me for Diamond?

OK guys - trying the CD route since I can find HDD image anywhere.

I get the cd to boot - choose English - "Removing files" goes from 0 - 100 quickly then creating directories sits at 0% and cd rom drive shows no activity.

Thoughts? It is on a 40GB hard drive
