Hey everyone. Not sure if this is the correct forum, but here goes. I have a stand up Megatouch MAXX that has been working great forever. I left it off for a few months and when I turned it on recently, the CMOS had dumped and I had to replace the battery. After re-boot, the CMOS error went away, but now when it gets past the bios and gets all the way to the "MAXX Loading...." screen, I get an error that says "Invalid key for unit blah, blah blah." Any clues on how to fix this as I bought the machine used and don't have a "key".

Thanks!

the key looks like a battery in a holder on the top motherboard, maybe remove it and reinsert? what model and version is it? emerald? jade?

did you reset the settings in the bios (attached a keyboard) ?

I'm not sure. It's at my parent's house right now. My dad loves it. I'll head over there and check it out. It's the emerald version I believe.

if for some reason the key is bad???? although not sure if thats possible, anyway I have a emerald key, I can mail you if need be

Um - I hope that when you "changed the battery" that you didn't remove the key (which looks like a battery with a plastic handle) and put a regular battery in it's place. And if you did, I hope you didn't throw it away. The actual battery is elsewhere on the MB...

No no. I replaced what appeared to be a normal looking CMOS battery. Someone had the wrong one in there to begin with. They had a watch battery in there instead of a CR2032. I'll swing over to my parent's house a take a look. It's possible that the key simply came loose when I moved it from my house to their house.

Ok, so I have looked all over the cab, inside and out, and can not find the key inside the machine anywhere, let-a-lone where it would go. It was transported to my parent's house completely together, so if the key fell out, it would be inside the cab somewhere. Nope. Not that I can see anyway. Here are some pics. Anyone wanna point out to me where the key is supposed to go? Beats the hell out of me. The game boots all the way to the screen that says "MAXX... (where the red progress bar goes across the screen), but then says this...

the PC motherboard battery is the one on the bottom PCB, the one on the top PCB is the wrong key/battery? is that the one you replaced or the bottom one, the top pcb should have the little spoon type battery holder thing, I have spare keys if you need one, lmk address and can throw one in the mail

The battery that I replaced was the one on the motherboard. Not the one on the top pcb. That is the battery that has always been in there. The only thing that's different is the bottom pcb battery. I don't recall ever seeing a security key because when I got the game, the fuse for the sound was blown. I had to replace it and never saw that security key. If it's a battery issue, what's the correct one? There is a CR2032 in there now.

The ISA card that is plugged into that board has a round silver coin sized thing on it with what appears to be a "46" in the picture.

What else does it say on that coin sized item?

There's your problem.

That's where the security key goes.

Ok. New/old issues.

Problem A)

The machine will work for a week or so, then it will give me this damn message again...

After a few times of cycling power to the machine, it starts working normally again. It might work normally for a few times, then the third I'll get the "Invalid Key" message again. I know it's not the key because the damn thing works. It's a 50/50 shot if I get the error or not. Sometimes, I'll turn the thing on 10 times and I'll get the error all 10 times. I'll walk away, come back an hour later, and it fires right up like nothing is wrong.

Am I looking at a bad HD? Any help would be appreciated.

Problem B)

My monitor won't stay focused. I know this is usually a flyback issue. I will adjust it in perfect, then after a few times of cycling power, it starts to get fuzzy again. My question is, what kind of chassis is this so I can order a new fly...

Thanks guys!

sometimes there are two spots for the key. One on the main board and one on the small board with the setup and calib buttons. Try using the other spot for your key. Sometimes it will be more reliable.

Thanks. I'll see if it's there.

Did you read this. IT IS YOUR KEY!

I really believe this ^^^^^^^^^^

Of course. The CMOS battery and the Security key are both in the correct spots. The game will work, then not work, then work again without moving it or doing anything to it. It's not a problem of the key being in the wrong place.

it looks like your key is in the holder but the black plastic "spoon" that it usually sits in has been removed for some reason. I would try and remove the key from the holder, clean the metal case with a eraser, then the socket that it sits in ...there are tabs that make connection to the key. I would gently clean them and add a little bend to them so they make a tighter connection when the key is replaced into the socket and see if that helps.
