megatouch ion installation?

Nope. None of my DVD drives work. Someone has kindly volunteered to install and send me an hd though hopefully soon it will be up and running

Hey I just got an Evo ION with 2010 myself and did the upgrade process to 2010.5. I found a similar issue with having to use 3 different DVD-R drives to get it to work. That said you don't need the special cable as you can just plug directly into the motherboard which allows the upgrading.

I also found that disc 1 was having issues burning and took a second burn + verification to get a disc that wanted to function properly. Considering the age of the cables I'd try plugging into the motherboard directly and see if that helps.

I had the same issue with trying to restore an ION 2010.5 image to a new HDD. It would boot to the restoration menu with the '...By continuing with this installation...' verbiage, but all the text was white against a plain black background & there were no options to cancel or continue. Also, some of the text was cut off. I was using an IDE DVD-ROM that was connected to the motherboard's USB port via an IDE to USB adapter. After I bypassed the adapter & plugged the DVD-ROM directly into the secondary IDE port on the motherboard, it booted to the normal restoration menu with the blue background with the red cancel & green continue buttons to select. I was able to successfully restore the image from there.

lol I just got back around to this. I just spent like 4 hours on this, and had completely forgot that I had this issue before I was googling and found this thread that I started!$? after reading the responses I just swapped SATA <-> PATA adapters to a different brand... and it now works.

I don't know what's more frustrating, the time I spent trying to figure out WTF? why installing 2009 worked fine but 2014 did not? and that swapping the converter worked... or the fact that I had completely forgotten I EVER had this issue before. I'm getting old...
