anyone install an ion from scratch?
I have an ion 2010 that I bought it seems to works fines. but when I try to re-install 2010.5 or 2014 all I get is a black screen that says
"By continuing with this installation program you indicate that you accept the terms of Megatouch's software license agreement"

but there are no boxes to accept just that text on the screen.
previous installations I've seen had colored boxes.

is there something wrong with my machine or how do you get past this screen?

thanks in advance.

Yes you should see 2 boxes green and red, Agree or disagree. Is this hooked up to the centronics cable? Try another dvd rom maybe or another set of disks.

Ok thx I tried installing this via a virtual USB CD-ROM. Maybe I'll try a normal ata CD-ROM anyone know where I can get that centronic cable from? I'd have to pull the thing apart just to bypass that centroncs cable and go straight to the 40 pin ribbon cable.

That is a compatibility issue with the dvd drive even with the correct cable you may run into the same thing. I have some drives that work on Maxx some that works on Force and some for ION. They are temperamental whit the drives they work with.

I installed both of my 2014s from scratch, but it was through the internal connections (IDE/SATA), not the external Centronics connection. I have a bunch of drives lying around if you need to try a different one.

thanks. I'm hoping the cd I have will work with the cable whenever it arrives :(

if not I might take you up on that offer. as that would certainly be less frustrating then doing the install by hand.

-thanks

Argh just got my cable today and same issue. Frustrating. Not sure what would cause this as the cd should show up as an ide cd /dev/hdc so I'd think the installer wouldn't be confused. I can partition the disk by hand and restore the partitions as saved on the cd but I don't have one of those ata laptop hard drive adapters either..frustrating

I see in one of your post your using a cd-rom, This should be dvd rom.

Right DVD I just get a black screen that says blah blah.. you agree to the license conditions but no ability to accept

Never had a problem with installing 2014 onto my 2012 Ion EVO, but I just used a DVD-ROM drive plugged via IDE/SATA cable.

I've got the purple mb using a data DVD with adapter the data adapter is tested good

I'm took out my old (Asus) motherboard and threw in the Intel. I've heard the purple ECS motherboards have a terrible reputation for failing.

You should use the sata port on the motherboard with a sata hard drive rather then using the pin converters.
If you get a black screen after booting the dvd it could be the drive, try a different dvd drive.

That is one of the original boards, best to swap out with an intel board. you may have bad caps or something on it.
usually if you dont get the screen with the red and green buttons it is the dvd drive. the screen will be black with white text.
try a different drive. make sure it is set to master.

Yep they get picky on the dvd rom drive. I am using a 2007 IDE and it is just a dvd rom drive, Not a rewriteable drive.
