Hi,

I have a Megatouch Ion that won't power up. I was playing it one night, and the next day it wouldn't power up. I didn't smell anything like the power supply was burning up, and I'm not really sure where to go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Open it up and check the voltages coming out of the power supply, the Ions, and the Evo's are notorious for the power supplies going, I have 3 that have dead power supplies right now and am waiting for the replacements.

The Ion eVo uses an ATX power supply. I know when I got my ion evo, it wouldnt power up.... but it was due to the bios battery being dead... When the battery dies, the bios loses the setting to "boot on power" ..it defaults back to "no" .. .it needs to be set to "yes" because you don't have that momentary push switch that most ATX power supplies use to turn on. If you jumper the atx power on pin on the harness that connects to the motherboard to a ground in the same harness..it should power it up.

The power on pin should have a green wire coming out of it (4th pin in on the 20 pin connector..technically pin 14)..just jumper that to any of the black wired pins sitting right next to it and see if it powers up. I bet that's your issue.

Bullwinkle, that's exactly what was wrong with it, thank you! Is the CMOS battery located under the sound board? You're not talking about the software key, correct?

Correct... Not the key. Depending on which motherboard you have, it may or may not be visible without removing the daughter board on top. It's on the bottom main PCB. Glad that fixed it for ya.

Okay, I replaced the battery, and the only way that it will startup is by using the jumper as expected from the bios being reset, but when it powers up, I can't access the bios, it keeps saing that it is in DSUB power save mode.

Oh.. You need to attach a ps2 keyboard and press the DEL key every second after power up until it enters the bios. I think it's DEL anyway. I'll be home after 3pm today and can figure it out and let you know. Which motherboard do you have? Mine is an ECS.

When you're in the bios just change the power fail option to auto on. Be sure to check that the time and date are correct too.

I still can't access the bios, because the montior is in some type of standby/power saver mode like I stated in the previous post. Do you know how I can get the monitor to come out of standby? Hard to believe that a little battery caused so many issues. I believe that I have the same board as you.

Thanks,

I can't get the monitor to come out of the power saver mode, so I'm unable to access the bios.

Thanks

a jumper needs to be added to the motherboard, have done 20 of them
it was a service bulletin on the merit site
they will send you a kit for free to fix it

i have the instruction pm me your email address

I never encountered not being able to get into the bios but it looks like Nixs has your answer.

i have this same problem! Can someone tell me about the jumper that merit recommended!! Thanks in advance

You have to short the pins for the power switch, no point of turning on the power supply if the motherboard is still off.
look at the front panel pins for the ones should be labeled pwr sw
