Ok, so my Uncle has an Maxx Emerald. They were having some power issues with a wind storm and they lost power. The machine was off, but still plugged in. When the power came back on, and they turned the machine on, it was dead. The monitor powers up, the dollar bill acceptor powers up, but thats it. I dont think the board has power and the power supply doesnt turn on. Fans dont come on at all. I didnt see ANY fuses in the machine except on the monitor chassis, so I went and replaced the power supply. No luck. Its still exactly the same. What would be my logical best bet? A blown board? Anyone know of fuses in here, in the switches that could be causing this? ANY help will be great. Thanks

I bought a Diamond Maxx last year and it worked fine until I got it home. Plugged it in and only the AC related things (monitor and DBV) seemed to be working. Figured power supply went bad... replaced it... no change. Sound familiar?

Believe it or not, the CMOS needed to have the date set again. It has happened once since then, after an extended period of time not being turned on, and I replaced the battery on the motherboard before setting the date and time in the CMOS again. It has been perfectly fine ever since.

There are some specific instructions on how to get the CMOS (BIOS) screen that vary depending on motherboard type. Basically it involves plugging in a keyboard and perhaps changing a jumper setting. PM me an email address and I'll send you the PDF I have that has the steps.

Is power getting TO the power supply ? (120v)
Does the new power supply even turn on at all ? (fans, etc)

The power supply may not be recognizing there's a load attached. (i.e. motherboard)
If the power supply is getting 120 but not turning on try a jumper between the 5v sense line and ground line. I generally just back probe the connector by stabbing the ends of an unfolded cut paper clip in each of those spots, U shaped. (typically the green wire and nearest black wire on the connector)

Does the power supply fire up when jumpered ?

The PDF is about 100K too large to attach to my post. Here is the web link to it at the Merit website... http://www.meritind.com/Support_Center/MAXX Troubleshooting/MAXX TS Guide.pdf
I would be willing to be the second set of symptoms from the top is what you have...
• no video
• no cooling fan operation
• screen is blank
• A/C power to the
monitor and bill
acceptor
• no output from power
supply

That worked!!! Exactly my symptoms, there is a reset pinset on there, did that, turned it on and got my checksum error. Plugged a keyboard in, reset time and date, and I am good to go. Thankyou so much!!!

Very cool....

And I learned something new too, did not know some of those newer ones had a jumper or reset. (J3 mentioned in the troubleshooting guide)

Wonder if your old power supply is still good then. (?)

Mine was. I had it tested by a guy who had an ATX power supply test plg in thing at work. It worked but I had already ordered a replacement before I discovered the CMOS deal.
Might wanna be on the safe side and replace the battery on the motherboard too. That's usually why it forgets what day it is. Only gonna get worse. I can't remember what battery it is but I bought a pair of them at Walmart (it's a common watch battery) for something like $3.00 and I taped the spare on the back of the Maxx.
One other thing... when I had to do it the second time... I forgot to move the jumper back when I was finished.... game has been working fine since so I don't think the jumper does anything except hide the boot up from users... doesn't really matter for home use, especially if you don't leave a keyboard plugged in. ;-)

Probably a CR2032. That's a VERY common computer battery.

In my case, I think the old PS was fried. It died for some reason power related, so Im just assuming it was. Its all good now, so Im too worried about it. Thanks again!
