I have a stand-up MEga-Touch XL Extreme with a 19" monitor. I put a new CD-Rom in it (i put the jumper block on slave) and when it loads up through the boot up screens it says it can not find drive "A" it list drive A as a 1.44 disk drive. It is asking me to abort, or try again. Like it is in ms-dos or something. This machine doesn't have a 1.44 disk drive. Is it a dip switch setting or something? Any help is appreciated...

Thanks
Ted

this is a computer configuration issue. grab a keyboard and hook it up and go into the BIOS system setup. I think you hold down Delete to access it, and if not, it'll be F1, but more than likely it's Delete.

in there, go into Standard CMOS Features. there will be an option for an A: drive in there, you want to set it to None.

then go to Advanced BIOS Features. there you can change the boot order. you want to make sure CD-ROM is first in the list.

I'm not entirely sure why you set the CD-ROM to Slave, isn't a Megatouch either CD-based or hard disk-based? if the CD-ROM is the only drive attached, you can use Cable Select, unless there's some other drive or controller in there I don't know about. really it doesn't matter... just a kind of aesthetic thing of mine that I follow. :)

good luck.

And check the onboard battery voltage, if it is dead/low all of your BIOS settings will revert back to default after you power it off again.

This might help some, it's a huge file, but may have something worth looking at.

+1 on battery. that could even be the problem. by default, computer BIOSes will actually change the drive A: setting back to 1.44 mb floppy by default, even if there is none present. and what else? change the boot order to where floppy is the 1st priority. ;)
