I'm semi in the market for a Medieval Madness, the reason I say "semi" is because of how expensive it is!

I know on Ebay they are showing for like $10,000 or so....but if listings for other arcades are any indication, that's probably over-priced.

1. What would a medieval madness in reasonable condition go for

2. Could I trade an Attack from Mars for one?

thanks!

6 grand routed maybe...8-10 grand otherwise...

Don't think an AFM will cut it, a mint one may get you a routed MM

Few on Mr Pinball:

Sigh, welll....$6.5 is better than $10

Maybe if I wait for a while I'll find someone to trade theirs for an AFM, people just want something new sometimes :D

MM has a good ruleset, tons of toys on the playfield and had a low production run. Considered by most pinheads as one (NOTE: "as one" since it is all opinion based) of the best games.

Realistically - 6K + on a good game even if it was routed.. They can go up to 10K for fully restored MM.

Depending on Condition.. Your AFM is worth 2.5 - 4.5K unless it was restored by one of the big names like HEP or Treasure Trove/Cove?

Those that have MM in their collection probably have AFM so a trade is going to be hard to find. Google RGP is your best bet for trying to trade one off + Cash... I wud almost be willing to wager that you will have to sell yours out right and then add the xtra cash and buy a MM...

A local guy bought a trashed out (but working) one from an operator last year for $4000 - then put $2500 into it...

If you managed a trade like that you would be the luckiest person on Earth.

It will never happen but its nice to dream! :)

all I can say is play it before you buy it. Its way over hyped... But yeah, expect to spend $6k+.

I went to see 2 at $4k, and no way in hell was I going to get them in that shape..

It is by far one of the hottest pinballs around right now. You could buy a brand new in the box iron man or spiderman and still have $2000 left over!

$2000 will buy a few vids!

It's definitely a good game, but not $6500-$10,000 worth...you're better off with Attack from Mars, Twilight Zone, Indy, and a slew of others for way cheaper if you are looking at high end stuff

Wow, you Pin guys are crazy LOL. I hear Adams Fam is up there as well, what do they go for?

Funny how pins will bring SO MUCH more than videos. Most people don't blink an eye when an Addams Family, Indiana Jones, Circus Voltaire, Cactus Canyon or Midieval Madness is listed for over $4,000. But you had BETTER NOT even hint that any (but precious few) videos are worth more than about $600. It would appear that $4,000 is the "Upper Limit" for a classic arcade video game, and only precious few games can approach that number, and they were typically produced in small numbers. Pinballs however, seem to easily fetch over $5,000, including those that were produced in decent numbers...

Building your own pinball is not as easy as building or modifying a video game.

Not to state the obvious, but pins and vids are worlds apart. They fetch over 1k for several reasons: more complicated to get in working condition, rarity of parts, rarity of machines, rarity of machines in good condition, etc, etc.

Most people can count, maybe with both hands but with fingers to spare, the number of videos that are worth over 600. We're comparing apples to oranges here.

...and your average pinball does NOT "easily fetch over 5k". RGP is full of these sorts of out of this world price claims, which wind up looking (intentional or not) more like an attempt at artificial price inflation via word of mouth. Better try over 1k for most pins. The majority of high run pinballs can be had for the 1-2k range. Most would think you paid too much for, say, a good condition T2 or a Doctor Who at any price above 1300. Most of the more desirable machines maybe...MAYBE hit the high 3's. Addams Family/Indiana Jones/Circus Voltaire/Cactus Canyon...yeah...it's kinda obvious those are gonna snag the larger cash.

QFT It's a good game, but holy crap is it overrated when we start talking price. 10K...that's a SpiderMan and then 5 good high run machines. MM is fun, but not that fun.

..and not to play down restoring a video game, because to do an extensive restore, repaint, etc.. is a ton of work, but..

Doing that level of restoration on a pinball machine is many, many more times complicated. Let's say you remove the playfield and its attached wiring and put it to the side. If you restore the pinball cabinet, all those brackets, details, the back box and the boardset it contains - that, to me, is similar to the amount of work restoring a video game. THEN..there's the playfield. With the artwork, touchup, clearcoat or not, all the mechanical parts, switches, diodes, etc....that's a ton more work.

You can find great pins for great prices if you are just open to looking and taking what the market presents. I got a steal on the TZ and the WW I have, I would have loved and MM, but hey, it wasn't out there for a good price. Those two just were there, right price, right time. IMHO good pins are worth every penny and I have been nothing but lucky buying them. Now some day things will change, as I eventually will decide I also need a MM to go with my BK and BK2000....
But I'll save the whining for a future day.

Also in regards to pin pricing, and this has been said about the complexity. But you can get a cab cnc cut out, buy a monitor, a board set, etc, and with the exception of a few very expensive new or old board sets, get yourself a completely new game for somewhere between 1000 and 3000.... Mint, perfect. You can hack one together for 1/5-1/10 of that, that still plays great. I can not imagine how much it would cost to pull together the pieces to rebuild a classic pin from scratch, and the time would be insane.
