Med res WG7XXX in Toobin has jail bars and bleeding colors

I have a problem with my Toobin monitor. I actually did the whole cap kit 5yrs ago, but even after the cap kit, it never looked right. I have the brightness down fairly low, as if you turn it up much, I get bleeding and halos around colors. Even with it low and looking dull, I'm still seeing bleeding (pink) in the edges of some graphics, as if the brightness is way up, but it's not.

Also, when it is first turned on, there's quite the jail bar effect, mostly a wave of light/darker pattern across the monitor. Seems to lessen and disappear after it warms up.

I'm now thinking - maybe not all caps were included in Bob kit, big filter cap wasn't replaced (never is?), some resistor could be out of spec..? What could I have missed in doing the cap kit the first time?

As far as the jail bars, I checked grounds, tried a different switcher, no change.

I want to dig back into this. Thinking pulling the chassis and replacing ALL caps with quality 105deg would be my first step?

Thanks in advance for wading through my post..

Jailbars usually are a symptom of dying caps. The bleeding issue sounds like a weak tube. A rejuvenation would seriously help it.

Thanks. This is exactly why I worry about the medium res monitors..wish I had a replacement/backup tube for it now.

you need a sencore cr7000 rejuvenator and all your weak gun tube worries will be gone :)
they fetch $300-$600 on eBay.

Thanks for the info.. I don't see buying one for that price, but maybe in the future.. Wish I had some replacement med res tubes for backups!

I swear I read where someone claimed that you could swap a std res tube in its place and see very little, if any difference. Is that true?

The tube is basically the same. your yoke is what is important. You can put that yoke and chassis on any tube. Go find a tv that is the same size and you can swap tubes, just have to converge it.
