Med res monitor troubles

Hey there,
I have recently picked up a Narc cabinet with a Wells Gardner monitor in it. Everything works, the cab is in great shape, but the monitor is really dim, and in the diagnostic mode, getting it to display red is really weak. I installed a cap kit, it made the dark picture a little sharper, but that's about it. I suspect the picture tube may be on it's last legs. I have a few questions, if anyone has any answers...

1. Would rejuvenating the tube be worth it? I've heard that this is somewhat of a temporary fix until the tube just gives out altogether.

2. Can I swap the tube of a med res monitor with an ordinary tv tube? The monitor chassis is a WG, and it really closely resembles one of the really common 15kHz WG models.

4. How do I find out if this problem is indeed the tube, or if it's something else? Or maybe both?

5. For the love of god, does anyone know where to find 19" med res or tri sync monitors? I have been looking all over, even emailing manufacturers. Nobody has got them it seems. WTF? Doesn't anyone care about Narc or Paperboy?

1. A rejuvenator can tell you if the tube is weak or possibly has internal shorts causing the problems.

2. What is the tube number? Many times a tube swap is pretty easy to accomplish and the replacement parts can be found in old TV sets.

4. Rejuvenator will tell you if the problem is the tube, other test equipment (or simply replacing the parts) can identify chassis problems.

5. The demand for 19" med res monitors is not high enough to make it feasable to supply the monitors. Your best bet is to fix what you have.

1) There is a white and red wire going from the chassis to a small little board mounted on the top left wall above the flyback. Make sure they are still connected, as sometimes they break off.

2) You most likely have a white rectangular plastic piece about the size of a deck of cards that is connected between the wire coming out of the flyback and the wire going into the neck socket. If so, cut the two wires (of the three on the white piece) that are closest to each other, then connect the two wires from the flyback and the neck socket (best to solder them together with heat shrink around the joint). That should allow you to get a better picture - if you've already replaced the flyback and still have a dim pic. I ran into two 19" WG K7000 med-res chassis this week that had that as a problem...
