Me + K7000 = horrible (FIXED!!)

Well, it's official. I really stink at refreshing K7000's. My latest is a 7191 that was working but really needed to be "freshened up". Well, while doing a complete cap kit, I also noticed that the voltage regulator chip, while mounted, was unsoldered. (But yet the monitor was working?)

After resoldering it and completing a cap kit.... now it's dead. No neckglow or anything. So while I bust out Fromm's flowchart, anyone got any good places to start?

theres prolly a reason that was left hacked... as in it isnt working right..

id check the manual and see if its even the correct voltage regulator, verify that you have the proper caps located near the hv shutdown pot and go form there.

also make sure r98 through r101 are soldered in well. they tend to run hot and smoke the traces...

if it was mine id veriy those caps and then shotgun the v reg..

also might not hurt to ohmtest the hot. If its shorted replace it and the flyback.

I hate K7000's... I've successfully capped a number of monitor chassis... G07, 20EZ, 6100 (one of `em at least), 4900, Wei-Ya, but so far the 2 K7000 chassis I recapped ended up dead and needing help to get going.

Me too Friz.... I have no problem with any other chassis... but K7000's kick my a** every time.

OK.....so I'm going to pull my screwed up 7000 and not even mess with it anymore as I see everybody has problems with this monitor. I'll be popping in a know working U2000. Not sure if that model is any better...but its working.

Fixed! And I think it was mostly my error. Put another entry in my "schooled" log.

After taking a very powerful magnifying glass, I could find a couple of broken traces I didn't catch, plus a couple of poor soldering jobs by me while doing the cap kit.

Just when I think I'm getting pretty good at this....... I get schooled.
