MCR Switching P/S With 4700uf 25VDC Capacitor Installed

I have had fellow KLOVers ask me about the Capacitor that may need to be installed when you use the MCR Switching Power Supply Adapter on a Spy Hunter that is humming. I took some pictures, hopefully this may be helpful to others that need to do it. On this installation, I used "U" shaped red wire connectors and crimped them to each end of the 4700uf 25VDC capacitor. I bent the legs so the cap would clear the P/S and adapter. Using the screws from the P/S, I tighten the U-Shaped connectors between the switcher's 12V and its ground connections. These are the same 12V and Ground connections the Adapter is getting screwed to on the power supply. Make sure you connect the negative side of the capacitor (Stripe, short lead) to the ground, and positive side of the capacitor (no stripe, long lead) to the 12volt.

Does this take care of the hum?

Does it totally eliminate it, or just lessen it? I've been hesitant to switch to the switcher kit for this reason....

Awesome...I see the cap type but when I looked online saw a couple of different ones anyone have a link to buy this specific type of cap? Thanks

It pretty much eliminates it completely. There may be a very faint hum, but you would have to be in a very quiet room and really try to hear it. Without the cap installed it was really bad.

I am using this kit in two Spy Hunters, a Tron, and Discs of Tron. So far, I am happy with them.

Could you give a link to the right capacitor? Will this also work with the hum in a TAPPER with the same MCR power supply adapter?

I still prefer repaired original power supplies, but what great insight for this option. Thanks for posting this.

Also, if you buy this kit from Arcade Shop and tell them its for Spy Hunter, they will include the cap for free! Just installed on in my friend's spy hunter a few weeks ago
