I've been working on this game way too long -- time to reassemble, sell and make it somebody else's problem. What's the deal with the interboard connectors? I thought people are using SCSI cables but mine don't fit (not even CLOSE). The connectors hit each other and you can't reassemble the board stack with the existing standoffs.

See the photo. Are you using shorter IDC connectors or something? What do you do?

they don't fit worth shit on tapper, or anything else with a metal board in between for that matter.

they fit on tron ok if I remember correctly.

I took a blade and shaved the shit out of them until I got them to fit.

that's the way it is unfortunately

Looks like the SCSI cables has a stress relief connector on top of the connector.
If you remove them they will be shorter.

While the cable will work without the stress relief on top. It just means when you take off the connector you can NOT be yanking on the cable to remove it.
Yanking on the cable will just give you intermittent problems down the road.

Added a Picture.

Just remove this part of the connector circled in red and it will save you all that time soldering.

on my tron it had plastic board stackers... still had to take a bench grinder to a couple ends of the cables to get them to fit...

make sure to use two pieces of cap lead and a meter to verify which rows are actually connecting before you plug them on, even bob said i was crazy but im telling you i had some connecting top to top and some connecting top to bottom..

if i ever have another mcr game i will be finding a different replacement. Nothing against bob, i just personally didnt like em.

Strange....your picture shows straight headers......most MCR games have right angle headers, which gives you quite a bit more room.

I've seen a variety -- never seen right angle but it's a great idea. All 3 Kick boards came originally with female 0.100 headers and wire/male paper cables. I've been either removing the female and soldering a male header in place, or putting a male-male strip in the existing header to make it mate with the female ribbon cable.

But... right angle could give way better clearance. Let's see if I get motivated to desolder and resolder 240 pins.

all mcr games except kick came from the factory with right angle headers - just like the inputs on the sound board, ergo your issue.

Yep, Kick/Kickman boards are truely a mess (in regards to the interconnect style they used). Anytime I have to repair one......I pull all those original connectors off, and install new .100 right angle headers.....then you can use those SCSI ribbon cables.

Samtec Part #: IDSS-24-D-04.00 is the perfect fit but about $6.50 a shot.

I just wanted to add an additional note here. I used Samtec's online form and got a free sample...didn't even have to pay shipping. I screwed up and put in S instead of D, but I also wanted the connectors reversed...so there wasn't as much stress at the board interface. I called them up, and they're sending me another 3 for free for me to check out before placing my order. So, in essence, I'll only have to order a few more for my boardset...so the price will be less than $6.50. That being said, they're also single row and don't need to be ground down with a Dremel to make them fit...I think it's worth the extra $1-2 over what Bob has. I'll take pics and post when I get them in and installed.
