Is a tron board interchangeable with a satans hollow, tapper, or spy hunter boardset? Meaning can the roms be swapped or are the boards completely different??

Spy Hunter and TRON/Satan's Hollow/Tapper are completely different hardware. Although Tron and Satan's Hollow look the same, I am almost certain there is a differenc in the CPU. The only TRON ROM swap I know of is Two Tigers....

tron and satan's hollow will swap between each other, providing you swap all the roms. i have a spare satan's hollow set i swapped roms on to test in my tron to make sure it worked, and it was fine.

tron and satan's hollow are completely interchangable - as J said by changing every rom. IIRC, domino man is the same as tron as well.
I recently put myself one together with both the Satan's Hollow in Tron hack and Tron on the same pcb. Now i just flip a switch and can go from one to the other. Still need to change out the 6116lp for a bigger ram that i can switch from bank to bank as well, and add an onboard lithium bat to save the scores.

Tapper and Timber are the same pcb as well, and i'm sure there are others, but i don't know them off the top of my head.

Tapper and Spy Hunter use MCRIII CPU and video boards. The SSIO board is the same though.

that faq isn't 100% correct. That's why i didn't post it. Timber is mcr 3 as well, and while they're both mcr 3, Spy Hunter and Timber/Tapper aren't interchangable. SH uses 6 or 7 program roms + an alpha rom, and Timber/Tapper only have space for 4 program roms.
Also, the video boards are not the same between the two. Spy Hunter uses 8 93419's, while Timber/Tapper uses 4 93419's, and 4 82s212s.

How about Two Tigers? I might be looking for a boardset soon.. Since it could be converted from a Tron, was it a simple rom swap?

I wasn't sure on that as my Satan's Hollow board has two chips up by the ribbon connectors that are noticiably different than the chips at the same location on all of my TRON cpus. I never really investigated what their function is though....

If i'm not mistaken, two tigers came in a conversion kit for tron, and a dedicated version. The conversion version was just a rom swap for the tron pcb. I can't say one way or the other about the pcb for the dedicated, though i suspect it was the same pcb.

OK, what it sounds like to me is something I have thought of but wasn't sure it was possible. You tell me. I am trying to get the TAPPER freeplay ROM made for me (with plenty of difficulty, but that's another story). If I ever do get it, I had an idea of having both the normal ROM and the freeplay rom on some sort of auxilery board and have both ROMs sellectable with a switch. Is something like this possible? How could I do this, who could do this for me? I'm clueless...

The easy way to do that is to have both rom images burned to a rom that is twice the size as the orginal. The new rom will have 1 extra address line which you would switch and tie to either +5 or gnd depending on which half of the rom you wanted to access. If the freeplay requires more than one rom change, then you'd have to repeat for each rom. This is how my tron/Satan's Hollow pcb is set up. The difference is every rom was doubled with Tron roms on the lower half, and Satan's hollow on the top half.
