Hi all!

The title almost says it all...are the two CPUs the same? Can they
be interchanged?

Thanks!:)

Ok, thanks!

But they seem to have the same pinout? Can one replace the other maybe, but
not the other way?

IIRC the E version has an internal oscillator, and the non doesn't.

If it did, I would be putting them on starwars boards :)

E requires the External clock. Non-E has the oscillator built in and you can simply use a crystal with it.

Couldn't you then convert from E to non-E by pulling a few components and adding a jumper or two? Or are we talking about a board that doesn't use a crystal in the oscillator?

The internal oscillator multiplies the external clock by a power of 4. So I suppose you could build a 4x clock divider to put on the clock. But you may still have other issues.
