One of my guns on Maximum force is having a tigger issue and the bolts that hold the gun together appear to b some sort of star pattern screw. What do I need to take the gun apart and what is the typical fix for a trigger. Also how do I set it on coin play and where is the jamma board? Thanks so much sry I'm such a noob it's my first arcade

bump? Any idea on how to take the gun apart or what special tool it would require?

The gun is held together with tamper proof torx bolts. Harbor Freight and Autozone carry the bits needed to remove the bolts. What sort of trigger issue are you having?

Thanks for the reply, the trigger seems kinda loose and doesn't make the click noise when pulled. It does work part of the time but most the time it doesn't. The game also randomly restarts every now and then. I still can't find the jamma board or how to get to it.

Can you post a pic of your game? Try reaching into the con door area and un hitch the two clips one on the left and one on the right side then pull the control pane l forward. You might have to look in the back of the game for any addition clips. Shine a flash light into the coin area.

The power supply needs to be set at 5.2 vdc measured at the board not the power supply, this should stop the resets.

You can pick up a security bit set at Harbor freight or I believe most hardware stores.
magnetic bits held in a red rubber holder. around $7 to 10 bucks make sure the holes are not offset the poorier made sets have thsi problem. It is real easey t oover tighten them and snap off the metal stud that was pessed into the plastic.

Inside the gun is a Piece of plastic pushing on a Micro switch that has a piece of metal attached to it. Usually an easy fix.

I will post some pics when I get home today, I do already have a multi meter but could you tell me how/what to do to check the voltage on the board, and how to turn it up or down. I am sry Im such a noob I do have a little electronic background but this is my first arcade.

here are some pics of the machine. Two are of inside the coin door. The only way I could see to get in to where all the wires are going to possible remove the speaker that is between the guns and somehow get to it but surely there is a better easier way im just not seeing it.

Got the back off my game and I feel like a total moron bc it was 4 screws. Anyway how would I set the voltage at the board. I also don't know how to set it to coin play. Hopefully I can get the resets to quit happening. Would buying a whole new power supply fix the issue. I think I saw one on eBay for around $50.
Thanks n advance

Is the problem you're having that the gun doesn't register all of the time and you have to really press the trigger to get a response? If it is then chances are the problem is the microswitch located inside of the gun. you can replace these or buy another gun altogether. I suggest swapping out the switch first since it's the cheapest to do.

I'll get back with you on the dip settings for the different coin options after I check the manual.

The trigger actually sticks is the problem, I have a bit coming to take the gun apart to see if there is anything I can do. Where could I buy just a switch/trigger. I have also reset factory defaults but I still get resets. Where can I adjust the voltage and what wire would I test? The happ guns on eBay seem to have a little flat brown connector and mine seem to have a fairly big harness like 6 or 8 pins across so I'm worried to buy a happ .45 gun any clues?

The Jamma connector that is attached to the edge of the main board. On one of the ends are Red and Black Wires. The Red Are the 5 volt line(s) and the Black are ground. Measure the voltage there. On the power supply you will see an adjustment pot. This pot controls the +5 volt line. Adjust the pot until the meter reads 5.2vdc on the board on the board.

The adjustments for the board are softwae driven and are set by going into the test mode via an extrenal switch in the coin door area or there is a small slide switch on the board that will put the unit in test mode. Follow the instructions on the screen.

The flatconnector goes directly to the board and powers the gun(5volts) and trigger pull switch. The Larger molex connectors are extensions. You can buy new guns with the flat connector or the molex connector. Or there are adapters. Usually the guns come with brake line hoses. If you buy just the guns there is another connector inside the guns that the hose cable will plug into. this connector is pretty much universal on the pistols. There are 2 connector styles and the newer guns internal board supports both.

check out HAPPCONTROLS.com web site. for guns and parts.

Thanks so much for the great reply. I took the gun apart and found the problem to b the sensor sticking n when the trigger was pulled and not springing back out. I applied a little wd40 and problem seems to b solved on the gun.
The resets still do occur, I found the 5v adjustment knob on the psu and also the test switch on the jamma board. I currently have it testing.
Now the total noob question, do I pull the jamma connector from the board and put the prongs n where the red n black wires are while the psu is running to test the voltage? Or do I jus stab the red wire a little and hold black to ground while the jamma is connected?

Thanks so much

No, leave the connector on. You want the power supply to be under load when you adjust it. There is no need to stab the wires. There is enough of the copper trace showing for
you to touch the probe to the proper tabs.

Take a look at the board(s) in the gun priore to reassembling it. The connectors contacts ended with cold solder joints do to all of the bouncing around. Touch them up with some solder and clean the flux off with an old tooth rush and some isophropal alcohol.

After you are done with the adjustments and get into the rest of the setup on the game remeber to calibrate the guns. Hold the guns as if you were playing the game not like you were shooting competion target shooting.Priore, Clean the plastic or glass bezel along with the screen with the game off. I use windex and a cloth. Make sure the barrel of the guns are clear of junk. I allways love the gum in the barrel.

Overhead flourescent lights can effect the play of the game. Along with the brightness and contrast adjustment on the monitors remote board.

No need to calibrate everytime. I calibrate about once a month or if I change the games location.

D40 is a good start to free an item up and clean, but put some synthetic grease or silicon or lithium on the moving part(s).

Good Luck

+1 check trhe 5v with it all plugged in and on. ALso test the 12 volts as well.

report back. Ideally you want your +5 to be 5.2-5.3 max, and the 12v needs to be 11.9 to 12.5 for the hard drive to work properly. If the 12v is low you need a power supply.

If the game locks up or resets at the same point in the game every time, youll need a new hard drive. You can get them on ebay from arcade-services for around $25.

Gun parts can still be had at happ controls.. lemme do a little checking..

You got lucky. Most of us have krappy converted area 51s/max forces and you have a nice dedicated one there..

Best of luck, let us know how it goes..

hey if your boardset is the 2 layer boardset you can get a conversion kit that changes the thing to area 51 and maximum force duo so youd have two games in one.. i have a kit on my area 51 and live having both games..

Thanks so much for all the advice guys. I checked the 5v lines and they were both low. Around 4.6 I believe. I adjusted it to 5.2 but have yet to get to play the game enough to see if it resets anymore because sometimes it took quite sometime before it reset. I did have to re cal the 2nd gun and it is working great now. The trigger is a little more loose than the other one but I can def live with it.

I guess the next major thing I would like to do to the machine is somehow upgrade it to be a max force/ area 51 machine. I think I have the single board though and cant find any kits on ebay for the single board. I will post pics later this evening of the jamma board.

Thanks SOOO much for the advice I would have never made it this far without this forum.
