MAWS website?

.. and it's down again. Someone ought to make a mirror of that site. There's lots of good information there, it's a shame it's on a sketchy host.

All of the information is extracted right out of MAME and/or some of the MAME support files for Front-Ends. It's just wrapped up in a pretty picture for you.

Now having a nice local app that allowed you to point to the files with a similar presentation would be nice.

Yeah. I found this thread on another forum: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=63890.0

It links an app that can serve some of the functionality of MAWs: http://www.waste.org/~winkles/ROMLister/

What is needed is something that creates a relational database, containing and cross-linking all of the data from mame -listxml, the mame source, and several of the mame "dat" files (history, etc.)

Paging Hamster!... You did that online ROM ident tool, this sounds like a job for you ;)

MAWS has been down for 3+ days now

This happened not that long ago too...

Even MiniMaws is down now too

Is it possible to Mirror this site,
or download all the Data locally to a PC ?

I use this site daily, and it's got TONS of useful info...

At this rate, I'm getting worried that this site might not be around for much longer.

If anyone has any way to capture this data, let me know.

Thanks,
Steph

Over at BYOAC, they said the site was taken offline due to someone hacking it. Mameworld.info is now back up, here's the text on their blog:
OK Back Online...

...after some fun with script kiddies and the hosts, we are now back.

MAWS will remain offline for the moment, as this is the place the issue came from in the first place.

Anyhow, welcome back.

I guess that means someone did a SQL injection attack on them. Time for them to harden their web coding... ;)

from what they say, the site was not backed up , and the host isn't being nice about it.

Im working on getting temporary solution up, just have to work on parsing the xml file, and fitting into a database, it wont have the notes but it will have the game name, rom files, image size, offset, chip types... its a start.

Any luck with this? :)

Thanks for your efforts.

Don't want to beat a dead horse,
but MAWS has been down for over 6 weeks now,
and I'm not holding much hope of getting it back on-line...

Is there anything that can be done ?

I'm even willing to offer some kind of mirror site
if that will help.

Can anyone extract that info somehow ?

I can't believe all that info is going to disappear forever....

Steph

I can't believe that someone with the relevant skills can't get it back up and running on another site. Hell, if I knew what to do then I'd do it myself .........

There's a thread on it here on the MAME site:

http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthread...collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1&vc=1&new=1327752864

but nothing to report really.

Best alternative for now is Progetto EMMA:

http://www.progettoemma.net/

Use Google Translate on the site to get an idea on what does what.

and of course there's always the MAME source code.

Oh yes, and this:

Technically, other people with the required skills do have other sites up. They just aren't MAWS. MAWS had a really nice interface. As for MAWS itself, it isn't coming back anytime soon unfortunately.

Also, that is my thread at BYOAC attempting to hire someone to build a standalone "MAWS" like app. I've always wanted a stand alone app as I don't always have access to a network. I started looking for developers at BYOAC as the FrontEnd guys are used to parsing the MAME XML file. I've done a bit of adhoc backend stuff for myself, but realized I need someone who was a better at the GUI stuff as I'd like the app to look like MAWS.

If anyone here is in that line of work, PM me and we can talk about the job and all the related details. You can read the thread at BYOAC here to get an idea of my ideas for the project.

I've been relying mostly on the MAME source for my needs:
http://mamedev.org/source/

Particularly useful with a google "site:" search.

I also occationally use http://www.mamedb.com as it has a small subset of what was available on MAWS.

I sure was nice finding everything I needed in one place:
multiple screenshots, cabinet, CP, and PCB pics, CPU type(s), ROM details, driver/game family info, video resolution, history.dat, mameinfo.dat, and a handy link to the source file if I wanted to dig that deep...

You know, between this site going down and the pinrepair site undergoing such controversy, there's been several resources in flux lately.

Annoying.

Bump it up. Anything going on here? I miss MAWS.

Apparently the site was backed up, or at least the data is intact.
When I inquired about getting a copy to recreate the site (and fix the underlying security issue), I was informed that another person was given the information/data and is in the process or re-creating/resurrecting it.

Should that not materialize shortly, I'll inquire again. It can't take more than a few hours to bring it back.

I hate to beat a dead horse
(...especially with the troubling pic in the post above... ),

but is anything happening with MAWS ?

I really miss the easy access to all that great info.

I can't believe nobody can remedy this.

It would be a tragedy to lose that info forever...

Just sayin'....
