Maverick doesn't work, go figure... EPROM?

To try to get the help you need, maybe you could post pictures of the Dot Matrix Board and your DMD. This is so that someone could actually verify that you have the correct board, DMD and the connections needed Do you have the correct Dot Matrix board (520-5092-01)? Who was the DMD manufactured by (Babcock, Dale or Cherry)? A picture is worth one thousand words!!!

iirc that is in fact j7

bottom line.....if yours isnt setup like this then you either have a different pcb(doubt that)

a much different display, or its been mixed and matched by your seller

try connecting your old and new display like mine,

i will go out to my storage unit tomorrow and take a few different pics

hopefully you can get it going

Hey DC

Mine was hooked up just like your picture, it just probably was broke. The seller verified it is broke, but blames it on me. I just wanted to verify these plugs before I plug a new one in. Like that pic I posted, maybe you could check under your dmd controller and verify that you have nothing plugged in there at P2 on the dmd itself.

Thanks everybody for all the help. The new DMD comes tomorrow, hopefully before I go to work at night. If so, I will definitely get it in and hopefully working. If not tmw, I'll get it in Thursday and post a video to hopefully end this long thread!!!! Here's to hoping

Thanks DC. That pretty much confirms it, like I thought, there is nothing plugged into P2. I guess the online manual is wrong on that then. The old screen never ever showed me the software revision as it should upon bootup, but I did at one point wire 12 and 5 volts to that P2 plug, exactly as shown in the online manual. I am wondering now if that fried the DMD, although I didn't wire anything there until I confirmed it wasn't working anyway. It came hooked up just like DCs picture. I might still like to verify my voltages on that J7 DMD power plug though. Thanks for confirming all that for me, DC.

i would be absolutely SHOCKED if it was something you did to eff up that DMD. again, fernando sold you a "fully working" pin for $500.

dude is mighty "proud" of his pins...if he let it out the door for that kind of change, it was a project (at least to some degree), IMO.

as i said early in the thread why would he scavenge parts off a fully working pin to repair another?......he KNEW the dmd was dead, which is why he SAID he tested on a bf

he took the part because the dmd was bad!, that or he put the good dmd out of maverick in that bf ......the old switcheroo!

these dmd's are way expensive! he know's that.....

got a lemon? ....make lemonade

do you have any spare parts?

Honestly, other than this DMD issue, which will hopefully be fixed tmw, there only seems to be two locked on coils, which I've unhooked for now, and four bulbs so far. The play field and translight are perfect, outside of cabinet looks great too, just a few minor scratches. I think it's been broke and unplayed for a long time, I'm thinking years. I'm going jump on my computer, this is Ipad, and upload some pics to see what you think.

I'll get that pic today DC.

OK, got in the DMD. Figured out all this confusion. This DMDs P2 IS the data cable and it's power plug is P3, not J7. Guess there are two versions of this board. So the online manual is correct. And I'm correct. and some others are correct. You get the point.
The new DMD power connector P3 is labeled right on it what pins are 12 volts and ground. Interestingly no 5 volts. However, the online manual states that the W1 jumper needs to be moved for SEGA games? If I do that, then this DMDs instructions show that configuration with the 12 volts on a different pin of the P3. I certainly don't want to hook this up wrong.

I'm thinking of wiring it just like the new DMD says, and pretend I havnt read the online manual. This new DMD has a model number with a -1 at the end, which should be wired exactly as it is labeled. I'm now confused. I'm going to go verify the voltages on the power plug, and plug it in exactly as this DMD is labeled. If it doesn't come up, I don't know what to do there yet. Stand by

IT HAS BEEN FIGURED OUT!!!!!!!!!!

New screen is up and working FINALLY!!! I figured up the confusion. So, the newer style DMD screens dont require 5 volts. The new one came configured with the jumpers on W1 conecting the 1s, however the online manual says for Data East, Sega games, the W1 jumper 4s should be connected. Those two different jumper configurations also coincide with a different input voltages for the pins at the input power plug, which is P3 on this new DMD. (It was J7 on the old one) Basically, no matter which jumper setting you are using, the grounds stay the same. The only different is the outer 2 pins, one is 12 volts, and the other is N/C (no connection). Basically, its completely backwards.

So, applying deductive reasoning, I decided to go with the online manual for a few reasons. #1 Its never let me down before, and #2, If I changed the W1 jumper to the 4s, like the online manual, then the 12 volts input pin on P3 was in the right spot. I unhooked the 5 volt wire, as it is not needed, according to the new DMD instructions. #3, if my connections were wrong, then the 12 volt wire would simply be on a supposed N/C, no connection, and would not harm anything.

Well, I did it right.

Screen is up and working properly, I was able to go into the menus and change a few settings and put everything on extra easy and free play and so on.

This has been a long thread but its been worth it. In the end, I still feel I was sold a game with a nonworking screen. I also feel the online manual could be much easier to understand.

Im going to take a picture of the paddlewheel motor connections for DC here in a bit, then this thread is DONE!!!!

DC, heres the pictures for you. Also pics of the working DMD. Been replacing some burnt bulbs, and just ordered a few small parts from Marco. I think im gonna replace the rubbers next, then just need to replace some parts when they get in and done...finally
