Well, I had gotten a Maverick, supposedly working, but had no power supply board. I found one and put it in. turned game on, nothing on the screen, hear a train whistle, then nothing. Blanking light doesn't come on 5v light and PIA lights both stay on. Pinrepair says that means the EPROM? The manual says that means a problem with a PIA? Pinrepair also seems to indicate that at least the rom version should be displayed on the screen? I'm kinda at a loss, don't want to just start throwing money at it..... Any suggestions?

hate it for you, bud.

not surprised either though...he wouldn't let anything out the door for $500 unless it needed work (IMO, quite a bit of work). hopefully i'm off on this and it's an easy fix.

good luck.

well i tell you what , if you want to send the eprom to me ill test it in my maverick, if my maverick doesnt boot that will confirm it, and if mine still boots then we'll know its something else

I'd be looking at the simple things like fuses, ensuring the connectors are on the correct headers and such. Sounds too easy huh? We tend to over think things. NEVER trust the work of someone before you.

Well, nothing new.... One bridge rectifier is supposed to have 32 volts coming off it, and it only has 2 then creeps up to 20 after a few minutes. Don't know what that means. Upon turning game on, still only train whistle and no display of any kind. Looks like the display update harness is installed, and there is a good 5.1 volts at the display board. I checked all connectors and reseated the roms, and there is no battery to remove. No corrosion....no idea....Are there test point voltages I can check? Should I send off the EPROMs to get checked? Should I replace that bridge rectifier? Should I go find my chainsaw? I actually have tomorrow off of work, and was wondering what I was going to do......think we all know now!!!!!

hey, if you get tired of messing with it i'll take it off your hands....i'm only a hop, skip, and jump from ya. :)

im thinking you have a couple of issues,

your display isn't getting juice(check high voltage section on display controller)

and you very well may have a bad bridge rectifier

So,

I ordered a rectifier, and all new EPROMs from Marco. I'm in South Carolina so I get stuff from Marco quick. Should have it all tomorrow. I sent a nicely worded email to the seller, who just responded back. He still stands behind the DMD as fully working, and has offered to fix or replace the CPU board of I mail it to him. I am happy with that. I am going to throw the new rectifier and EPROMs in tomorrow night, and if it still doesn't work, I'll send the CPU to him.
Wish me luck!!!!

Hope you don't get FERNANDOED!

You're definitely not getting enough juice to your DMD. The game may be booting given you are hearing sound but you just can't see the status on the DMD. I'd get the power correct to the DMD first and then you can assess the CPU. Hopefully a few parts is all you will need!

I have attached a picture of a plug on the DMD.....There was nothing plugged into it, is it supposed to have something plugged in there? I dont see any extra plugs?

Thats all I can see right now that could be wrong, other then the bridge.

Ok, the bridge is good..... I think.. Puts out 40 volts, as long as the coin door is closed. I believe that's normal. Still nothing on the DMD, and CPU blanking light not on.... I don't see any other plugs that could go into that one pictured... Anybody? Can somebody look at theirs and tell me if somethings supposed to be plugged in there on the DMD?

quick google search for maverick board images didn't turn up much....but i did find this:

there's a larger pic here as well as some repair notes....i didn't look them over, but maybe they can help. i know he said in the opening paragraph that the game powered on and only the GI worked, so maybe you can find some answers. sorry, it's all i could find:

yes, that is the main plug, without it your dmd will NEVER work

the reason you dont see any plugs might be because its missing, look on the dmd controller for a empty plug:)

Ok..reading the manual, it's a cherry dmd, it looks like nothing plugs in there? It is the j 2 plug..... The j 1 plug pin 1, red wire is 5.1 volts.... the dmd board plug has a red at pin 1, which shows 5 volts, and a black at pin 3, which is ground.... I'll look down into the cab tonight to make sure there isn't an extra plug, but the maverick diagram for a cherry dmd seems to show j 2 doesn't have a plug. I'll try the new EPROMs tonight, and if that doesn't work, I'll just send the dmd and the CPU to the seller to verify/fix/replace.

A fresh mind looking at pin repair, and it looks like the dmd is supposed to get 12 volts also, at a different pin. I need to verify this because I don't think I ever saw 12 volts when probing. Looks like the power supply board cn5 plug and the input Plug on the dmd are good places to look. I'll check those tonight.... This is thread is turning into a thought process for me!

I now have all the pinouts and voltages for the power board and the dmd board and the dmd! I copied them out of the manual and will be able to verify them tonight. I feel confident that this will specifically identify the problem. I will be checking the power board cn5 and cn6 plugs, as well as the dmd board j1, j2, j3, and j4 plugs. Also the dmd p2. Supposedly dmd p3 doesn't have a plug. hopefully that's the one that is empty!! I'm at work until 6 so just have to wait...... No need to respond, I'm kinda just thinking out loud.
