Hi,
I checked the forums and could not find the answer so here we go......

Working on a Matsushita TM-202G from a Millipede and C561 is a 3.3uF 160v Bipolar cap, cannot locate a replacement at that voltage.

After much researching,it appears that I can swap a polypropylene film cap in it's place. As I am not an EE, thought I would check here first before blowing up my monitor.

I know that I can do the "back-to-back" with two polarized electrolytic caps but from what I read, the film cap is a much better replacement.

Can anyone confirm or deny this?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
Jeff

That's the one place I did not look..... thank you......

Problem solved....

But if anyone would like to follow up on the previous discussion of Film vs. Electrolytic, that would maybe help out in the future.....

Thank you again

Jeff

Yes, film is ideal when replacing bipolar caps. At least you know they will never need to be replaced. Obvious rules apply: must be rated for 160v or greater, yadda yadda. Make sure it's not too wide for the footprint, etc. Some of those higher voltage film caps have a lead spacing of >20mm.

A film cap could have been the original part, except that higher voltage 3.3µF film caps didn't exist yet in the 80's.
