MasterCraft 052-0060-2 Multimeter Not Beeping

A good multimeter for starters.

Sorry, that was a cheap shot that was too true to pass up.

Upgrade to a Klein or a Fluke. Yes, they are more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

A good quality meter (like Fluke) will likely last forever, but this is probably good enough. Most cheap-o meters will lose backlight and sound when the battery dips. If you know your battery is fresh then make sure the direct connection from the IC to the speaker hasn't fallen off:

Maybe time to invest in a new/decent meter. You don't even need to spend a lot, any Chinese autoranging one in the $25-40 range will be fine. Just avoid ones that are less than $20 bucks. Or you can get the cheap Fluke for like $65 or whatever it is. You don't have to break the bank to get a good basic meter that will last you forever.

This guy has a video about your meter. I was going to say some meters have a separate button to enable/disable the beep in continuity mode, but it looks like yours doesn't. So other than checking the battery, it could be an internal issue:

i agree with you get what you pay for... with one exception....

Oh I don't even really go that far. For a lot of test equipment, you don't really need to spend much these days. Just avoid the absolute cheapest stuff, and read the reviews, and you can get plenty of capability at a pretty cheap price. I'm definitely not in the 'Fluke or GTFO' camp. China has gotten really good at copying Fluke designs.

That's also why I usually say $25 is about the bottom of the 'ok' range for DMM's. There are plenty of good DMM's out there in that $25-40 sweet spot range. (And the price of the cheapest Fluke has steadily come down. It used to be like $175, then $100, now they have a $50 model.)

And when you're in that $25-40 range, you discover that many DMM's will often have some feature that others don't, that you'll usually like on a particular meter. Stupid stuff like a backlight, or a power button, or transistor measurements, or the fact that they beep in diode mode by default, or the way some beep faster than others, etc. Minor differences, but when you use one a lot, you come to appreciate them. That's why I have six meters now, and I use them all for different things. :)
