Tonight I will be starting up Mass Effect 3. I just finished playing #2 for the second time, finished all of the DLC content and now I am really excited to play 3... that is until I read that people are not happy with the ending. It has me very worried that I will be totally disgusted and the 80+ hours I have put into both #1 and #2 would be a waste.

I know it is totally subjective. To put things in context I love the Mass Effect series. To me it is pure perfection getting better and better with each game. The ME universe is so rich. My worst case scenario is after all the fighting I come to find out that everything we went through was for naught. Please don't let it end that way Bioware! Why else would the fan base be so upset?

So for those of you that have finished ME:3, did you like the ending? Please no spoilers, I am having a hard enough time as it is not spoiling the ending for myself. A simple YES or NO would do :)

I haven't finished it yet (I'm about 35 hours in) but I'm loving it so far.

My story arc -
ME 1 - Good Shep saving the world
ME 2 - Less enthusiastic Shep, tired of being doubted, and having to save everyone again
ME 3 - Bitter Shep's trying to save everyone again, but unless you've been on the Normandy, Shep's an blunt asshole this time around.

:)

Oh, one tip, start with the From Ashes DLC. It greatly improves the story/character interaction.

The impacts of your choices in 1 and 2 playing out in 3 are awesome. Three other co-workers are playing through and it's been fun talking about the differences we're seeing in three based on choiced from 1/2 and who was left alive after two.

Excellent suggestion on the play order for the DLC. I am really glad I played the Arrival and LOTSB DLCs before trying ME:#. I did arrival early but I can see where playing that right before ME:3 would have been the best.

I didn't play the DLC in 2 (didn't want to pay for it at the time), and now I'm regretting it (but not enough to go back and replay the whole thing).

I finished Lair of the Shadow Broker (LOTSB) last night, it was super awesome. Has some great one liners and geeky inside info into the characters in #2.

Arrival was OK, not bad at all and it sets up what is happening at the beginning of ME:3. Overlord was a cool sidequest. Kasumi - Stolen Memory was really good. If I were rank them in order, 1 being my favorite:

1. Lair of the Shadow Broker
2. Kasumi - Stolen Memory (I love her character)
3. Arrival
4. Overlord

Just beat it and it wasnt terrible but really wasnt what I was hoping for. Most of the game was so good, although the ending was just meh all that build up and not even a final boss fight.

that is considered a spoiler BTW.... :)

on the topic of spoilers. I was at MGC convention last weekend. Listened to a very good speakcer who had written a book on Nintendo. Well about half way through he gave out the ending to Mass effect 3. What the F... I have not even bought the game yet and he ruined it. On a side note he did say the designers were considering adding an alternate ending.

Dude, I would be SOOOO pissed off.

The ending isn't bad, I just finished it now after plowing through so I could hear what people are complaining about.

This game is effing bleak at times though, good writing. I started with 2, and I got the gist of most of the backstory.

I've played through 1 and 2, and did everything so i couldn't wait for this one... then they had the multi player demo early.....then i got hooked......
I got the game on release and still haven't even played the story mode for more than 4 hours...
always called to multi which is the greatness

I played the hell out of 1 and 2. 3 was damn cool......all the way up until the end. It was just very anti-climactic. Just not the finish that people have been waiting 4 1/2 years for.

I was fine with how 3 ended.

I'm loving the game so far. 25 hours in, just finished the third Priority mission. Hitting side missions like crazy because I do not want to play the online component to fill up my meter.

I'm not big on online multiplayer in general, but it was quite fun the one time I tried it with ME3.

I have to say again, the ending was just fine for me. The gravity and dire nature of the story was really reinforced with the excellent writing and voice acting, and it all really overcame any lingering qualms i had with the ending.

I didn't do any MultiPlayer, and completed every side mission but one (I didn't grab/check something during the From Ashes DLC mission, and couldn't go back to complete it later).

I know what you are talking about, I ended up finding everything and getting the achievement. Its taking all of my will to not read the Wikis to make sure I don't miss anything in the missions. The new system in 3 for targeting objects you can inspect is different that 2. In 2 you could find something across the room, in three you have to be really close or notice the little circles around the object if you are reasonably close.

Hopefully I don't miss anything.
