Picked up my second game yesterday, and after looking closely at the cabinet, I believe I identified it as a Primal Rage cabinet. Having figured that out, I am now seriously considering restoring it to a Primal Rage game, and using the Marvel Superheroes for something else, since I was thinking I was going to convert the Marvel Superheroes to something like a Marvel v. Capcom anyway. This is why I'm thinking to convert it back to a Primal Rage and I'm wondering what other people think about some points:

1. I really like the idea of a title in its original dedicated cabinet.

2. I was thinking of someday trying to create theme rooms. For example an Atari room that contains Atari pinball machines w/ Atari arcade games, or a Gottlieb room with pins and a Qbert. I was thinking that the Primal Rage would be cool in an Atari room b/c it is an Atari fighter game, which seems sort of rare to me. And it is also unique in general because it used a stop animation technique to develop the graphics. And it has that mid 90's gore controversy aspect to it.

3. The Primal Rage cabinet art is pretty cool on its own.

4. It should not be too hard to find the cabinet art and PCB to convert back to Primal Rage.

5. The Marvel Superheroes will do just as well in another cab or barcade type of set up, and I could add it to a Marvel v. Capcom cab w/ a JAMMA switcher.

Or 6. Primal Rage is a lame/boring game that few people like as a collection piece or like to play, and I won't either (I don't think I've ever played it), and I will regret dedicating a cab to the title.

Please let me know your thoughts. Thank you all.

What is the issue with the game play? What makes it unplayable? And thanks for the new word. I had to look up "dreck".
Everything. Everything is the issue with game play. Slow, sluggish, uninspired. It's the 2-player-fighting-game equivalent of Konami's The Main Event.

I love anything Nintendo, but I would clean it top to bottom and enjoy it if it were mine. A MiSTer CPS2 setup or the Darksoft multi would be awesome Though.

I'd leave it as is, and grab a Darksoft kit for it (I love mine). To me, Primal Rage was another "me too" fighting game trying to follow on the coat tails of MK. I played it all of two times and decided it was just not for me...same with Killer Instinct. Maybe it was just that I was getting out of video games by that point in my life (finishing college, starting post-grad work, etc.), but I just couldn't get into either of those games.

You are right and I clearly confused the two games. I was never a big fan of either same as you.

This game lived 1 year as a Primal Rage and what, 27 years as Marvel Superheroes…

I'm all for restoring games back to their original glory IF it's a good game. To me, Primal Rage isn't a good game. You're better off keeping it a jamma cab as-is that way you can pop in other fun jamma boards and/or the Darksoft kits.
Also, they did a good conversion kit job with this cab. Usually kits don't look this good on cabs.

Primal rage is an excellent game. Once you learn all the combo moves, it's great fun. The graphics are awesome as well. Just make sure you have the rev 2.3 roms on the PCB and you're good to go. Don't listen to the haters. Unfortunately I just sold my almost 100% working board with the rev 2.3 ROMs on it, or I'd be able to help you take the first step of the long journey to return this beautiful lady back to her former glory.

Why do you think the Primal Rage art will be easy to find? I'm not aware of any out there...

I was basing it on this website:
