Recently posted on general repair.Figured on changing to technical since it's a monitor issue.
I have a WG K7000.No picture at all.Blown fuse.T1 is charred,VR8 is a melted blob, pretty sure the flyback is bad. Please point me in a direction.

Direction? Start by replacing those parts you mentioned.

Do you see any cracks/holes in the fly?

Also check the horizontal output transistor, C36/C38.

Was this plugged into a wall socket?

I don't see any cracks in the fly but it does have some goo in the bottom corner. Can I just ohm C36 and C38 on the back of the board? The game was plugged into a wall socket.

He is asking if the monitor itself was directly plugged into a mains power. In other words, was the monitor only plugged in with an isolation transformer inline with it?

What he meant was "was the *monitor* plugged into a wall socket". In other words, did someone try to plug the monitor directly into the wall without going through the isolation transformer at the bottom of the cabinet? Because that usually blows up lots of parts, least of which would be the rectifier diodes.

Bad flybacks are very common on 7000's. Does it have white knobs, or black knobs? If it's got the white knobs, then it would be worth changing even if it isn't bad yet...

Check your horizontal output transistor for shorts, replace the flyback and any charred parts. Check those couple caps for shorts (remove from board to get accurate readings).

There is 1 3 pronged plug coming directly from the power supply. There is an isolation transformer.I'll check where those wires go.I have noticed some diodes are bad.The flyback has the black knobs.I have a feeling alot of stuff is fried.

I checked the cabinet. Cord comes in to power supply, then to isolation transformer, then to the monitor.Guess I'll start testing the 1's ya'll(yes,I'm from the South)mentioned.I'll keep a list of what I test. Thanks everyone for the help. This is a great site.

Very strange that all these things would be fried. Do you have a good photo of the chassis? Sounds more like it got struck by lightning.

I'll work on getting some pics of the chassis. It's extremely dirty. It worked when i picked it up.Got it home and had red screen.Looked in it and noticed the CPS boards were taped together.Wiggled them around a bit and the game came on.About 3 hours later it started smoke'n and sizzle'n.Pulled the game boards and cleaned all the dust, bugs, and crap out.
The game came on but with no monitor.....obviously something fried when it smoked.
I'm kinda new at this stuff but I know bugs, hair, dust, etc. can't be good.Gotta find what caused this.Hate to replace all this stuff and it happen again...

Oh yeah....I wish it got struck by Lightning!!!!.....at least I'd know what happened!!!!

I'm just concerned that these things you're seeing as burned aren't actually burned, but sometimes things get spilled on parts (or there's glue that's used to keep stuff from moving during shipping) that gets mistaken for burned stuff. A photo will help clear that up.

By the sound of it though, you've got a bum flyback. Minimum.

I hear you...I was curious about the fact that some stuff might just be silicone or something.....The big caps have some white stuff that looks like white silicone...here's some pic's... I'll try and get some better pics....

The charred part is a transformer, they tend to get hot and melt the plastic. I have seen plenty of melted housings on fully functional transformers. The blob is glue used to ensure that particular pot is not adjusted, very common.

Cool.didn't realize that was a pot.Is it possible that when I was wiggling the pcb to get it to work could have blown the chassis fuse.Well, it didn't blow while I was wiggling it.But maybe it came back loose. That might be a stupid question but I'm learning.I haven't replaced the fuse since it first blew.Thought I should try and figure out why before putting a new fuse in and turning it on just to see what would happen.

if you got other stuff that's blown, it'll probably blow the fuse again.

K7000s are like working on old Chevys.

was it established whether or not it was plugged directly into a wall? I've seen a K7000 plugged into a game without an iso before.... it blows up a lot of shit, sounds like what you're going through right now. lol :/

The thing I couldn't make out was the photo of the entire chassis. Everything else looks normal. That "melted blob" is glue, as I posted above.
