Are Mars bill acceptors worth anything? I ended up with this a while back and it's been sitting around and I'm not sure if it's useful to anyone. It has a Sega lock and 2 keys with it. Let me know if I should throw it up for sale or put it back on the shelf.

AL4's are still selling out there, so it may be worth a few bucks. I'm pretty sure there are update chips sold that will update it to take the newest curency. If it hasn't been updated, that will hurt the sale price. Without an update, it'll only take $1's and nothing else.

If it has the update board installed, then it shouldn't cost too much to update the chip. I think I paid $35 to update my VFM4.

If it doesn't have an update board, then it's more costly.

I'll pull that cover and see what board it has in it. I'm guessing it takes more than $1 bills because it says $3 per play and doesn't give change. I like the lock, that key it uses is unique and the fact I have 2 keys for it may make it worth something by itself. I'm just trying to thin out the collection of extra stuff I have, now what do I do with that extra 33" monitor sitting in my dining room :D

Looks like it does only take $1 bills by the label on the front. They probably put that one in there and never updated it. IIRC, the AL4s should take $1, $2, $5, $10 and $20.
