Mars Bill Acceptor Upgrades. Is this possible to DIY?

Hello all. I have about 20-30 Mars bill acceptors, all new, which are not upgraded to take new bills. I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the firmware yourself. I am sure you'd need some sort of RS232 cable, software, and a computer (with a serial port) to perform this. I've upgraded firmware using this technique on several electronics in my past. Just wondering how complicated MARS makes this as a DIY.

Thanks

Yes you can upgrade those bill acceptors yourself. Contact Mars tech support for the information:

Basically you buy/rent the "Bill Programming Module" (BPM) loaded with the amount of updates you need for your particular acceptors. In other words, if you have 10 acceptors to upgrade, you purchase 10 updates. If you've purchased the BPM unit, you can purchase more updates later if you need more. If you've rented the BPM, after finishing with it, you return it to the Mars distributor you rented it from to get your deposit back.

You may need more than one BPM depending on the operating voltage of your acceptors. There is a seperate BPM for 24 volt AC acceptors and one for 120 volt AC acceptors.
