Today is my 20th wedding anniversary. I was thinking about it this morning and realized for 15-16 of those years I've collected arcade games. My wife never really got into them and never plays them. She "tolerates" my obsession with games. About 8 years ago I seriously thought of quitting the hobby and selling most of my games. She was the one who talked me off the edge because she knew how much I loved the hobby. She also encouraged keeping them so the kids could enjoy them. She's always been very patient with my long distance pickups, family plans rescheduled to work in a trade, and parts laying all around the house or garage. She's always looked the other way when a new ding in the drywall appears from moving games in and out of the house. Even so recent as Mother's Day weekend she waited on her gift so I could pick up a great deal on a pinball machine at a garage sale.

I've been pretty lucky these last 20 years and I hope most of you guys have similar stories! I think its good to know that yes you can be married and have this hobby!

Jeff

Congrats man- you've found a keeper. I've been married 12 years, with only 3 of them collecting games. Wifey hates every minute of it.

Congrats seems like you could total 4 newly wed couples theses day and not get to 20 before there all divorced.

Congrats - two feel good stories this week. Always nice to see/read about.

Next week will be 10 years for me and the Mrs.

My wife is not into the games, but she is all about the hunt for deals. She chuckles when I tell her I'm driving ~3 hours for a game.

congrats! my wife is very much like that too. she doesn't have much interest aside from the occasional ms. pac game but is very supportive of the hobby.

Congrats to the newly weds!

My wife and I have been together for ~12 years, married for 5 of those.

Congrats. It's not easy to stay married for twenty years. Takes a lot of work and commitment to your relationship. I'll hit the 20 year mark in Sept. Like your wife, mine doesn't share in the hobby, but doesn't complain about it either. And even after 20 years, I'd marry her again.

Congratulations on your milestone!

My wife and I have been married for 5 days. :)

WTF are you doing on KLOV? Shouldn't you be fucking somewhere on an exotic island? Ha.

Congrats to the OP and to everyone else here that makes marriage happen.

We got engaged IN my arcade in 2007, WITH one of my arcade games.

I had recently downsized to an 8-game arcade. Every machine was working perfectly. My future bride and I were playing 1943 together. That game didn't have a credit button installed at the time, so it required someone to open the coin door every so often to credit-up manually--using one of the coin switches. The game won't accept more than 9 credits.

Since a periodic replenishment of credits is to be expected for lengthy game play, I (strategically) placed the engagement ring in the coin box. Therefore, when I was getting on one knee anyway to add credits to the game, I could kill two birds with one stone.

It happened that way, and she doesn't ever want to get rid of 1943.
