Marquee 'glass'

tempered glass is whats used.
in case the kids hit the glass it wont hurt them as bad.
not sure about the heat tho.
sometimes i use plastic for the bezel. put some artwork on there and good to go.

I realize tempered glass will "shatter" rather than "break"... but is it also stronger / more heat resistant?

Tempered glass is stronger and more heat resistant. Most glass bakeware is made from tempered glass.

At Iowa State, they used to do a demo in the freshman engineering class, where they'd fire-polish a glass coca-cola bottle, and proceed to drive a nail with it. (Kids, don't try this at home.)

Why not go with lexan?
Definitely will be cheaper and you won't have to worry about it shattering.

Go with glass my man, either tempered or non-tempered is fine, I have used both successfully.

Plexi or lexan will get scrached up too easily.

Getting scratched has nothing to do with this application as it sits behind the artwork not in front of it. Makes a person wonder why the manufacturer used glass instead of plexi? Plexi was around then and would've been cheaper one would think.

Oh, yes... sorry, I thought he meant the bezel. Reading too quickly, I guess. Yes, the Millipede does have the marquee glass behind the artwork, so it would not matter if it's glass or plastic.
