Market price for Attack From Mars is $10K? REALLY???

After seeing some people on here talking about MM and AFM, I thought that I would look and see what they are going for on EBay. Last November, I was at an auction where a REALLY nice AFM was passed on when it was bid to only $3,650 or so. Right now, on eBay, there are 2 AFM's listed for over $9,000. Is this wishful thinking, or are people actually PAYING this much for them?

wishful thinking where im at.at pin a go go a perfect afm was 6,000. and i mean it was perfect. someone had a mb that was also perfect for 6,000. never trust ebay prices. the people that put pins on there for crazy prices are flippers who dont play pinball or have a clue about pinball. they are just waiting for the right sap with money to come along and buy it to impress their friends.

Most will bring more than $3650. $9k is retailers that supply the wealthy. A very nice condition AFM is around 5K give or take depending on condition.

I'd be shocked if someone talked me out of my AFM or MB for less than $8K...

They're worth what people will pay, period.

The way I look at it, installing a new playfield, plastics, going over the pcbs, lighting, mods, cabinet art, etc add up pretty quick. So, if you not inclined to do the work to have a nice one, you pay someone to do it.

You can also get one beat to hell on the cheap too. Play it, enjoy it, sell it. Whatever you want. You may even get a little more than you paid without putting any work into it.

This applies to some games that we have all picked up. Think about it. This is KLOV, so if you scored something for $50, you brag about it. Most of these pickups I wouldn't let in the garage, yet alone a gameroom that I enjoy. Others will pick up the $10K pin and never use it for more than a nite lite. Then, there's the happy median. Take care of your stuff, fix it when you can to make it a good playing game (and looks good too!) To each their own! :D

All depends on which path you go down...

don't think 10k is the price for an average afm now (maybe someday..) but some restored ones surely will sell around this price..

Problem is that prices vary depending on the level of restoration and the person doing the restoration and the quality of the machine and what was done to it. Find one with a new cabinet, NOS clearcoated playfield, optic glass, chrome trim, new plastics sets, Bill Ung Mod etc etc and you might pay 10K plus. Find one with cloudy or raised inserts, wear at the SOL hole, a faded cabinet and you will pay less. Many people simply don't compare apples to apples or know what to look for.

AFM are getting hard to find for a decent price. Even if you find a project game for $2500 you most likely need a playfield, cabinet sideart, plastic set, misc parts and the time/labor to install it. It's not hard having $4k invested plus add 100 hrs of labor to it. You may consider your labor being free but someone else may put a value to their labor.

Finding a MB is even harder, less made.

I would not sell my AFM for less than $6K and I would not sell my MB for less than 10K.

If you don't like the 10K price for an AFM or a MB then you need to consider the Wh20 (White Water) pinball machine that is for sale on the RGP for $12K.

I find it interesting how pin values vary so much on the same machine. I understand that the level of wear or quality of refurbishment/restoration can have an impact, but we are talking about more than double the price here. I have a completely restored and mint dedicated Major Havoc machine that people would scoff at me if I tried to sell it for one penny over $4K, and yet one that is considered to be in "decent" shape will sell for no less than $3K. I understand that pins are different, but it seems like a REAL premium is placed on pins (much more so than videos) that are in nice or much better than average condition.

Also, is the "correct" abbreviation for medieval madness "MB" and not "MM"? Everyone in this thread is using "MB"...

MB is Monster Bash. They are selling for quite a bit, even more than AFM in a lot of cases.

I also think the price for that AFM is way on the high side. But keep in mind that there were fewer AFMs made than MM.

I did not catch that. When I stated MB in my post I was referring to the MB (Monster Bash) that I own. I said I would not sell my MB (Monster Bash) for less than 10k because my game is fully restored with a clear coated NOS original playfield (not a reproduction), cabinet done and most of the playfield parts were replaced with NOS ones.

MM - Medieval Madness: This game is in a different price range than AFM's and Monster Bashes.

I am so sick of these abbreviations....just spell out the things...we don't call all the arcade machines abbreviated stuff....lol

Anyways, If Attack from Mars is up for $5000 it will sell. I am certain the market value on one to SELL is $5000 right now. You don't seem them available for less and if someone has one for 5K I am sure it will be gone. I had to buy one PRIVATELY for $5000 and I am certain if people knew about him selling it I would have to increase the bid...

Do these pins ignore economic factors like recession? If 9k is reasonable, what would they be going for in a bull market?

LOL...no dude, the worst is when people start using abbreviations when talking in person!!! Just fucking say "ARABIAN NIGHTS" instead of TOTAN...I'm not going to say "Toe-Tan!". The other day my friend said TSPP and CFTBL... "Tee Ess Pee Pee" and "See Eff Tee Bee El" ...lol...JUST SAY SIMPSONS AND CREATURE!!!!!! :)

I would buy any AFM's in a second, and if they are collector quality I would then grab my list of clients waiting for the pin and start calling with the price being $8500.

And it would sell in 5 seconds.

Monster Bash $8500 all day long.

The 10k pins tend to be high end restorations. $7500-8500 collector quality HUO

$4500-5500 for very nice examples.

This is from a retail standpoint.

If we get one of those pins in they sell within 2 days. Same with MM.

Who are these crazy people who buy retail?! They're screwing it up for the rest of us! Speaking of which, Alky...I will NOT be attending the Captain's Auction tomorrow...go nuts w/ the phone bidding!! ;)

I bought my AFM from a retailer and didn't pay anywhere near $8500. I payed what most nice examples sell for now. It was in real nice shape, was working, was 50 miles from me and I got tired of missing out on every one that came up for sale. Now $9k for a medieval madness, forget it!
