Mario Widebody Restore - Pic Heavy

I do have a harbor freight locally. Would never have thought to look there. Do you have a part number by chance? I have read on here not to use a Allen wrench, but arcaderepairtips video the guy says you can use it, just turn the monitor off when you do because the wrench will get hot.

do your best to find a plastic one, i really don't recommend using metal adjustment tools of any type on a monitor. bob's kit is cheap but shipping is the killer so try and get other things if you can while your at it from him, he has some great tools not to mention oodles of parts.

I'm not 100% positive that harbor freight has them, they might even be part of another kit. so i can't help you on the part number sorry :(

It's cool. Yea I was just looking at bobs site. I really like the 16" tool and the kit would be nice. I wish I knew I would have needed this when I bought my cap kit from him. I'll look at what else he has that I might want.

Thanks!

I've got the 16" bob roberts tool. It is not an allen wrench style, rather a standard flat screwdriver style. Still a nice tool to have but watch for splinters. It's made of fiberglass and may have a few strands poking out here and there. Yeoouch!

His 7 piece adjustment tool set contains some coil tools, and it comes with a little tube that you can jam a couple of the tools in to extend them (maybe it's for something else, but that's how i use it.) Nice little tool kit.

Not sure where to pick one up locally.

On adjusting the coil you probably already know, but be careful not to force the coil and work the tool back and forth a bit to get it moving.

Awesome man! SO Glad to see this got a good home! I cant wait to see when she's finished.

So what did it actually come down to in the monitor? Did the 5v just need to be adjusted?

Aside from the monitor rebuild?

Just curious cause i was told it worked when i first got it, but he said it was starting to have some issues and i wonder if it was basically cause it wasn't getting the right voltages.

It was actually a number of things. The monitor had to be rebuilt. There was no way it was working without the rebuild.

The power cord was shredded and needed to be replaced.

The power supply was running off the 100v going to the monitor.

And I had the up the voltage until the game ran stable.

I think the power supply might have issues since I really had to crank it up to get these games to load, but it's getting replaced with a PP7B anyway for Mario

Got the board, cage, power unit, and harness today! :) I still need a video cable tho :(.... Hopefully I'll be able to test this weekend. I'm gonna check radio shack for the right molex connector for the video cable, I'll just make one if I have to

Here are some updated pics after working on the cabinet this weekend. I didnt get a chance to sand or paint due to the hurricane, as I need to take it outside to do this....

I installed the boardset and none of the sprites are working. But from repairs logs online and talking to a few members it seems like it might just be a faulty DMA chip or cold solder.

Anyway here are the pics of the inside. the screen is upside down, but Ill fix that once I have a working board.

This is what the screen looked like before adjusting the flyback brightness.

This is what happened after playing around with it for a while...it looked like this and it was going left to right really fast, bouncing...Monitor issue? Board issue? It went away after leaving the game off for a while.

Yea I saw that as well. I got a paint match code from another restore on here. I picked up the paint and I hope to get it painted today. Idk if I will tho... The wife might be a little upset at me since I have done nothing but work on this thing all weekend....oops. I fixed the boardset though so now it's playable! Just cosmetics and figuring out how to wire the coin door lights since the harness I have is from a DK conversion. Marquee should be in the mail :)

List of things left to do:

Wire coin door lights

audio cable

Paint

Sideart

CPO

2 Orange buttons

Just painted the cab. Not perfect, looks better in the pictures and I was getting pissed trying to remove the bolts on the side so I just painted over them. I'll deal with them later.

Now I need the artwork.

Thanks. The first pic was after the first coat, so there was a little black peeking through. That is gone now.

I've decided not to paint the front because I hate black paint and it looks decent. I might vinyl it. Idk.

I sanded and painted the brackets as well

Excellent Job so far man! So glad this went to a good home. IF i still had it it would literally be just sitting in that basement still lol. THATS HILARIOUS YOUR PAINTING IT IN THE KITCHEN, your wife was actually down for that? Mine would kill me lol.

oh and yea i wouldnt worry too much aboutthe bolts until you get the side art. When you apply the side art definitely get take thebolts out before applying, then sand off the paint on the bolts (or get new ones). Always look nice

Well it's either in the kitchen or in the dinning area, which is carpeted and where my games currently reside... Lol I'm in a 1 bedroom apartment. 860sqft

Got the Marquee today and put on the T-Molding. Time for a side-by-side before and after.
