A lot is simply being good at seeing what's going on, and recognizing patterns - in other words, just having good reflexes and practicing! These things are really obvious, but there might be a few things a beginner wouldn't know:

When you hit a critter, you can knock it backward, forward, or straight up. If you're near the edge of a platform, you can knock critters forward so they're right next to you to kick. You can also knock crabs back so they'll walk back under you for the second hit forward.

Straight-moving fireballs appear on the same level as you. So, if you feel a fireball is about to appear, you can stay in one level just to make it appear, then jump back down to do your regular business. You can also destroy fireballs, if they're close enough to the platform when you hit it. They'll come back faster though.

The POW button comes back after each bonus round. So, don't be afraid to use it. However, it can be a handy platform to use in certain situations.

For some extra points, you can knock critters to the same spot and kick them all at once for bonus points. I've gotten three at once, but I guess it would be possible to do a lot more if you're really good.

Don't destroy the red fireball because when it comes back its Waaay faster .

Theres a couple spots on the middle and bottom floor where you can jump over the blue fireball while standing still . Memorize these spots .

Don't use the POW unless you have to because standing on top of it is a safe spot . Icicles can't fall on you , you can jump over the blue fireball while standing up there and none of the creatures can get you . You just have to look out for the red fireball .

what i do is use 5 men, number one. after that, here's what i do. on the turtle levels, i try and get the first two turtles back to back, cause if you hit the second right after the first you'll get 1600 points rather than 800.

with crabs, i stay on the bottom platform or on the pow and hit them as soon as i can. if you go right up to the top to get them when the level starts you can risk not getting them or getting killed.

pows i tend to use only when in a hairy situation. on firefly levels it is key to pay attention and use it only when they land, so you can maximize the use of it.

also, i never hit the fireball, only the green plasma or whatever ball. if you hit the fireball another one will come out and move a lot faster, making gameplay tougher.

and figure out a pattern for the bonus levels to get all the coins so you get the bonus points. i usually do the bottom right coin, the two right middle coins, jump across to get the two left middle coins, drop down for the left bottom coin, and then get the two top ones. doing it that way, or whatever works for you, will allow you to get the bonus every time.

i play this way every time i play, and consistently score around 150k or so. still working to get above it with the icicle levels.

Find a video of Perry Rogers playing it. I watched him play for a bit last June at the NW pinball show and it was simply amazing. He makes it look ridiculously easy. - Barry
