My Mario Bros Widebody's sound is suddenly very loud. I tried adjusting the sound pot but it's still extremely loud even at the lowest setting.

I capped the sound board a few years ago.

Any ideas?

Is the volume pot bad? spray it with some electronic cleaner and turn it back and forth. If that doesn't work, replace it. It could be something more sinister, but I'd start there if your soundboard is capped and working.

I'd wipe the pot with the game off. see if it's possibly dirty. or maybe the wiper broke? I don't know otherwise. :(

Finally got around to this.

The pot is bad.

Who sells these? Bob Roberts?

Thanks.

Well I guess the pot wasn't bad. I replaced it and the game is still super loud and distorted.

Damn.

Rechecked connections, solder, etc. I checked the little sound board attached to the monitor and I guess it hasn't been recapped. I only did the monitor chassis a couple of years ago.

Does this problem sound like something that would happen with caps going bad? I did replace one of the caps (it was the biggest one - the only one I have a replacement for) and it didn't help.

Bummer.

Replaced caps on sound board, problem is fixed now.

And it only took 10 months.
