I just picked up a mario bros the monitor needs to be capped but it is playable. It has a problem that i don't think is related to the monitor, the screen will go upside down for a split second and then the machine will reboot and go back to the opening screen. does this have something to do with the monitor or a pcb problem??

It's not the monitor. Could be a board issue, but my bet is that the power supply is going bad. My Popeye used to do the same thing you're describing. Replaced the power supply, it's been rock solid ever since.

Was also going to suggest checking the output voltage on the P/S...it's a common fail point for unexpected resets like that :)

post this in the repair forum.

but, check your voltages (mainly +5v) going to the game board and report back. could be a power supply issue.

thx for the replies i'll chase this problem down once i get the monitor fixed. Where can i pick up a power supply if its bad?

Don't forget to check those dam battery holders on the CPU board......hopefully no corrosion..
