My brother and i are almost finished with a Mario Bros restoration. The cab was pretty beat up when we got it but we made a lot of progress restoring it back to it's original state. We filled the some holes and fixed some broken pieces, painted the cab again, applied new side art (from phoenix), t-molding and a new cpo, the monitor got a cap kit but there's still one problem:

When we turn the cab on there is a loud sound (like the coin sound in the bonus levels but a bit higher) that keeps on ringing until we put in credits. When we're out of credits the sound starts again. What could this be??

The Sound CPU gets its cues from the main CPU. Sounds like there may be inter-processor communication issues or a corrupted program ROM such that the sound CPU gets caught in an endless loop until it moves onto a different section of code.

I would first verify the contents of the main CPU and sound CPU roms and then start looking at the inter-CPU logic.
