Mario Bros intro screen…blooming issue?

I think I'm just going to sell my Mario Bros cabinet, buy another one, and see if the same thing happens on the replacement cabinet.

Cheers!

This is really the only way to be sure.

Also, do you have a widebody MB or standard? That might make a difference.

While his CRT gently weeps? Yer nuts

It's an issue you wouldn't be able to diagnose anyways but it can and does happen.

I restored a widebody. Maybe the standard body doesn't exhibit the "feature." I'll sell mine and hope for the best on standard body. Nobody wants the widebody anyway.

It's the exact same monitor and the exact same PCB. The only difference with the widebody is the cab.

Well, now someone has to look at all the movies where Mario Bros. appeared and if there's footage showing the title screen :)

I did this when I suspected a problem with Cloak & Dagger. It was easy to find the movie that had the footage I needed. MAME (at least the online internet archive one) doesn't do what my PCB does so I needed the movie to confirm the behavior was correct. It was, at least according to the movie footage.

I was just thinking the extra width and cabinet materials could be causing it. Maybe it's the orange color compared to blue.

That explains it, for you see, the monitor picture has room to stretch out and 'breathe' in a widebody cab, whereas it's confined in a standard cab.

I believe the technical term for that is "cabinet weep"
