So my Mario has the free play installed. Do I have the ability to save high scores as well when this is on?

Mario Bros. has a free play mode built into the game - this is a stock option in the service menu. However, it does not save scores or have an attract mode. Or,stay in freeplay after you turn the machine off (If I remember correctly.)

If you installed the braze high-score save kit then you get freeplay with attract and it saves scores.

My Mario Bros. PCB is stock and has a battery caddy for 3 AA batteries. I believe once you have fresh batteries installed, it should save free play mode as well as high scores. I personally hate having batteries in these games. I removed them from mine and just put a leaf switch in the coin mech. Now I can hit the coin eject button to gain credits. Myattract mode is always on, even if the machine has credits or is set on free play.

Wow, I'm not so sure thats a "stock" PCB. Mine certainly doesn't have any batteries.

Can anyone verify this?

is this verifiable? mine doesn't have batteries in it, but i seem to remember my last one did and did not save bookkeeping.

edit - you know what's friggin weird, though? satan's hollow saves settings to the point where it saves credits that are left in the game when you turn it off. surprised the shit out of me.

yeah my board/set of boards I should say, has like 2 or 3 AA batteries on it.
I should mention that I am not getting high scores, because apparently I am not scoring high enough to
take down the current scores up there.
LMAO

Mine accepts batteries. I took them out cause I thought they were just for book keepig. So, yeah, it makes sense that it would hold the freeplay mode.

i would check mine but don't feel like pulling the other games out to get to it, so i'm just gonna deal with quarters for now.... i know, i'm lazy.

I don't think you want the freeplay mode anyways, no attract mode. I hate that.

It might save the free play mode setting, but it definitely does not save high scores. No sir.

I can put mine on free play and still have the attract mode. I can also leave credits in the game and still have attract mode. You might be right about the high score saves, I never tried that.

I would check it if I were you. Last thing you need is acid damage on a good boardset. Thats why I took mine out.

i did actually pull the batts. out when i got it due to slight leakage, but nothing that got on the board, through some miracle... i just don't feel like moving 2 other games to get to the back of it so i can put batteries to check when it's not that much of an issue to me.

Yeah, I wasn't sure, so you must be right. It has been over a year since I last tried it. The rest of the Nintendo games don't do attract with freeplay without modding them.
