Mario Bros. (1983) fans: which multiboard (or ROM) has the closest emulation to PCB?

Mario Bros. fans:

As I scour the interwebs for a Mario Bros. cab please help me bide my time with opinions on accurate emulation.

I have a cabinet with a horizontal monitor - would like to hear thoughts on the ArcadeSD version, 19 in 1, Pandora's box, as well as best ROMs for the ArPiCade.

Love this game!

I have the real game, so I have not emulated it personally. But from what I have read about different JAMMA boards for emulation purposes, ArcadeSD seems to be the more likely one to have accurate emulation. But hopefully you'll get some here who have played it on different emulation setups and can provide some first hand experience.

19-in-1 is awful. Sounds are terrible and you can't play 2 player.

You can play 2 Player on all the boards that I'll had.

At least the 19-in-1 has all the sounds. I played it on a Pandora's box and some of the sounds are just not there.

As far as spot on perfect, the only FPGA I'm aware of is from the NAMCO's DK/DK Jr/Mario Bros machine in 2008ish.
Those do come up for sale every now and then.

When you start Mario Bros in the 19-in-1 I have it says "1 player only "

That as a general statement is hit and miss. You'd have to actually play test compare the specific game title side by side with real hardware.

Since that pcb isn't MAME it didn't have the luxury of ongoing updates if an issue did exist.
Some games like Pacman are done very well, others are just OK, others are not OK, all case by case.

Even if you have it emulated in MAME its not 100%, although that's only because Nintendo used analog sounds for that game. So, I think even those official Namco versions are lacking in that respect. Unless you rebuild that analog sound circuit out of the hardware components I don't think it will sound the same.

19-1 sucks just like the 60 n 1 , but since when can you not play 2p Mario on it?

I think yours is jacked Hell. lol

Might be, but why does it give me that message and only start 1 player?

I know if you push 1P start while in Freeplay, it will simulate adding a single coin, and then engages the 1P start input. You would see 1 player only between those 2 actions because only 1 credit has been given. If you press 2P start, it should add 2 credits and engage the 2P start input.

I've gotten conflicting info about 2 player support on the 19 in 1 as well - thought it could do it if the cabinet settings were changed but here is what the manual says:

Effect of Cabinet settings:

Upright / 1 Joystick -

Defender - allows two players, alternating, 1 set of controls (normal play).
Joust - allows one player only (not normal two player simultaneous play).
Robotron - allows only 1 joystick and buttons (okay, but not normal 2 joystick play). Robotron game setting change is also required (see manual page 8).
Upright / 2 Joysticks (the usually preferred setting) -

Defender - one player only, no two player alternating play, unless a second set of controls are installed (okay for one player only, but not normal alternating play).
Joust - two players simultaneous (normal play).
Robotron - 2 joysticks, two players alternating (normal play). Robotron game setting change is also required (see manual page 8).

Mario Bros. is not listed there and yes, as mentioned previously, when the game comes up it specifically says "one player only"

Has anyone played Mario Bros. on this:

750 IN 1 PCB GAME ELF HORIZONTAL ARCADE MULTIGAME JAMMA GAME BOARD

Would it be the same emulation as the 19 in 1? Better/worse?

I would assume very similar but be aware that some games on the 19-1 and 60-1 play better than those newer xxx-1 pcbs.
My personal experiences in owning all of that stuff in past is that the xxx-1 felt even laggier than the old 19 and 60 in 1.
It's all cheap emulation, so hard to put standards on any of it.

Honestly, if you want a decent emulation arcade experience it is difficult to pass up the Arpicade Jamma setup which is Raspberry Pi 3 driven.
Really hard to beat it nowadays.

It's weird because my first thought would be newer hardware, newer (better) emulations but that is not the first time I've heard that. I guess the 19 in 1 is cheap - can also buy one and throw it in there. I should probably do little videos of the versions (I get/play through them) and make a little youtube video - might be interesting. When I have time (Haha).

I have an ArcadeSD in a cab right beside my actually Mario Bros cab and it's definitely not the same, it's quite different. Sounds and sprites are definitely different.

Thanks for chiming in - yeah, it is so interesting, I'm new to this so maybe I'm wrong but it seems like with the Nintendo games if you want "the real thing" you've got to be on Nintendo hardware.
