Hey guys I got this thing working after changing 2 fuses and finding a connector disconnected. Now I am getting a pic like this (not always the same, starts out as the sides moving then ends up like this) and I have been around long enough to figure I am probably about to get my first cap kit experience but I am bewildered???? I am getting no sound and no game when I push my player button. If it was only a cap kit wouldn't I get sound and game action? I am getting 5.2v on the board. Any body with some suggestions? Thanks
Mike

Think you might have a bad ROM what version board do you have? I think there are just 2 different versions of the game PCB as far as I know. I'm still trying to figure out how to fix the one I have if it's that same type of board it might be just as easy as 3 new graphics ROM's(I only tried to replace 1 of mine so far). My board has flying chunks of the first level LOL fly from top to bottom kind of like the matrix LOL I think its more like the Marbletrix.

My game PCB says revision A. Where do you get graphics roms? Anyone else able to tell me more? I would love to get this thing working. Does anyone here work on the Atari boards? Thanks

I had a problem on the PCB were I was getting the error Rom at 20000 error L On version A that was chip location 12A. Now I also found out that Location 15D is the sound ROM. The game ROM's are at the top right of the A board near 12A so maybe replacing the 3 chips or just the 2 to the left and right of 12A might fix it (circled in picture) the 3 chips under 12A might be Graphics chips as well. I'm still working on mine I'm not totally sure here is what my screen looks like now after replacing chip 12A and that made the ROM error go away but made the game look like the Matrix.

And just for the record this is an older version MM PCB still says Rev A on it as well:

I got my chips here: http://www.hobbyroms.com/videogames.html I took some very close up pictures of the ROM chips on the PCB so all the information could be read and sent it to them. You might also just want to get an entire set burned just to have backup chips.

This is what my board looks like, looks the same as your pic of the older board but I seem to not have 2 chips you do. The schematic does not give either location an address (top right left of r12) Any idea the difference?
Mike

By the way your screen shot looks like mine starts out.

I would say that's probably your problem right there these to chips that I circled in red are needed to make the board function looks like someone parted them out. This didn't work before without those chips did it? I took another picture of the chips close-up. Can't read it very well the one chip at B15 is labeled TMs5220NL Dep8340 I believe the 8340 is just the production date not very important to find a chip with that matching I think this is a sound chip. Now the big processor chip location B17/18 is labeled R6522AP under that number is R6522-33 and under that is the production number 8431.

Hey found the TMs5220NL sound chip very bottom of the page http://www.keinert.com/

Can't seem to find the R6522AP/R6522-33 chip apparently they were used in the C64 computer well some of them. I had a great place to buy chips but lost the web page maybe I'll be able to find it later.

Both these chips look like they just deal with sound processing.

you might be better off buying an indiana jones card. Those chips might be hard to find.

There are lots of indy carts out there. You should be able to find one cheap. But many seem to have sound issues. I think I have 2 or 3 indy carts that have various sound problems.

No this has never worked for me. I got it this way. OK time for a newbie question, If both of these are sound chips (I have no sound by the way) would their absence make my video not work correctly or do I have 2 different issues? Thanks

Those 2 chips are NOT needed for Marble Madness. They provide speech for Indiana Jones, Road Runner, and Road Blasters. MM and Peter Packrat don't need them.

Well I have run out of ideas, any system 1 owners have any suggestions? I think this may not have been a good 1st try at a repair. If no more suggestions anybody within driving distance of Indianapolis interested in a project? Mike
