I just got a marble madness and I am looking for any jumps or secrets anyone knows. I saw an interview online with the designer of the game who said that they did not have enough time to program secrets/easter eggs into it, but people came up with jumps that they did not foresee when they made the game.

Also, on the first board, what are the numbers on the areas that you can not get to as you are in the valley towards the bottom before the goal? I always wondered if you could jump the sides of the valley and land on there to advance the game, but it doesn't seem possible to make the jump.

No... you get points... your marble gets "stars" around it... and then you move down the thin ramp to the GOAL.

1. Beginner Race - yes, as they said, you can jump the cliffs. The last one is the easiest, in my opinion.

2. Beginner - no tricks that I know. I always take the tube down, much quicker path.

3. Intermediate - you can jump off the beginning platform and land on the upper deck, bypassing the trench and saving time. takes a few times to get the feel.

4. Aerial - no known tricks/bugs

5. Silly - you can jump off an upward ramp and exploit a small bug.

6. Ultimate - no known tricks/bugs

**unconfirmed**: I am told, on Intermediate, that it's possible to jump off the end of the "wave machine" and LAND on the GOAL AREA. I can't do it and have never seen it done.

btw, my high score is 143K.

that's friggin crazy! you know, i have to say, i'd be interested in seeing mark alpiger play some 'marble' or 'crystal' at cax next year, just to see how well he could do.

This isn't really a trick, but you can give yourself extra time on any level to practice.

Flip the service switch on then off right away. Every time you do this it adds time. The timer will only go to 90 or 99 (I think), but the time will keep adding on.

So, if you have a level that is killing you and you want some more practice, this is a way to "cheat" and get more time.

Wow... that's awesome. Thanks for posting that! I have some practice to do. :)

Nice! I'll have to try that... I always tend to die at the very end of arial or on silly. A little extra time would be nice to let me move on.

It takes some muscle and rough hands to handle the track ball like that. I would only be able to do that with a feather light ball. The standard one is a bit heavy for me to to that with and I have fairly strong hands.

That video is just crazy though. Almost perfect throught the entire game.

Awesome

Very cool video. the insert of the hands is cool to see the strategy and because otherwise I would have wondered if it was a cheat. Thanks for posting.

I hesitate to post this as it's nowhere as good as that super guy's skills... but I'll share just to show a decent game, including the "oh crap" moments where stuff just doesn't go right.

I've gotten better recently (since I fixed my speaker grate to go UNDER the control panel --- now I don't need to watch my fingers to ensure they don't get scrapped!). Won game and got 95,500 a few nights ago.

OK people, the internet strikes again. This is a bullshit video. Take it from someone who can regularly score >120K on this game.

Notice the perfect/direct video screen (not shot via video camera).
This is a MAME "INP" file playback that has been meticulously constructed to create the most perfect play the game can ever recognize, down to the slightest calculations. A perfection of code, being streamed to the input buffers of MAME to display an awe-inspiring gameplay experience -- which is not humanly possible.

The video inlay of the hands rolling a trackball SEEM to add authenticity, but notice how the camera NEVER pans up to show the monitor screen. That's because the machine is probably not even turned on. You cannot perform the maneuvers depicted without doing some "backrolling" to halt the marble in order to make sharp turns. If you did what the "hands" are showing, the marble's momentum would have it roll off the edge.

This is truth right here.

I played MM for a little bit tonight... I tried a few of the tricks, and I think they'll help me in the long run. The jump at the beginning of intermediate will take some practice... and from the fake video, the shortcut at the end of Ultimate seems like it'd be a huge advantage, but I wasn't able to make it (the other marble kept getting in my way while trying to practice at it).

And the service switch for extra time DEFINITELY helps for practicing.

BTW, is there a trick to the hammers at the end of Aerial? Sometimes I can blow right past them, other times I get stuck there forever.

You raise some reasonable points, but I'm not convinced it's fake. If someone was using MAME shots and exploiting the code to fake a perfect game, why wouldn't they incorporate the random wand to give themselves a few extra "+10 seconds" for extra points?

What controls getting the +10 seconds at random times?

I believe you have to have only gone "x" amount of area in "x" amount of time... basically I believe it's programmed to help people who suck or who are good but low on time from the get-go of a level.

Well... there is a "death" in the last level... and the ball gets "stunned" at least once... but yeah...looks too "perfect" to be human.
