so Ive had no issues with my MM set in free play. I went to play and noticed that it wasnt in free play mode any more (no flashing volcano lights), but it works fine inserting coins.
So went back into the menu and found freeplay not to be turned on. turned it on , saved the settings, and exited the menu - game still doesnt show up in freeplay.
Am I missing something?
Thanks!

I don't think you're missing anything... if you set it to free play and it's not saving, maybe the settings RAM/Battery/EEPROM is bad (not sure how settings are saved on Sys 1)? Mine stays in free play once set.

yeah,
I found frizz's post about his MM doing the same thing. I pulled the motherboard and reseated everything as he did, no change.
so hopefully someone could chime in here and tell what actually saves the settings - which chip(s)

Hey... I know this isn't that useful... but I hope it might be a little useful.

I pulled up the System I schematic. It shows 3 chips are used for the NVRAM functionality. A "2804", "LS245" and a "LS74". Maybe one of these has a problem?

Sadly, from the schematic I could not determine the location of these chips on the main system I board.

Just found that mine is doing the same thing. Was on freeplay just fine for 3 years or so. Now its credit mode.

High scores are still saved.
