Mappy: Questions and Answers?.. Owners/Experts wanted
I'm restoring a Mappy and I usually do stupid amounts of research when I'm restoring an original cab. I'm starting this thread because many of the threads I found on KLOV never got resolved. If you've got any info on Mappy this is the place to post!
How many Mappy's were made: I have read that Bally/Midway was tight with their production numbers, and usually we have to go by lowest/highest serial numbers. I have Mappy #221 and #3399. As far as I know that's the highest and lowest out there. Anyone know what number they started turning Mappy's into Jr. Pacs?
Differences in Cabinets: #221 is a Particle Board cabinet with SF bottom (blue cp in pic) and #3399 is an MDF cabinet with blank bottom (front cab in pic).
The Solar Fox Bottom: My #221 has a bottom panel of the game Solar Fox on the bottom. I've heard from other Mappy owners that theirs does too. The interesting thing is how many Solar Fox's got sliced and diced to make Mappy bottoms? Written in dark black marker on the inside back of the SF bottom panel on mine is the words
"Bottom's"
"Mappy-U.R."
"?00 PCS"
The wood that holds the pcb is glued over the first digit of the number... Figure 2 panels to 1 cut up Solar Fox.. How many have this bottom? 100, 500, more? Any Solar fox bottom mappy owners want to throw out their serial numbers? Anyone have writing on the inside bottom? I figure they didn't write that on every panel, so mine is the first of a batch of them or the first with it?
Anyways, Any info on Mappy or Solar Fox for that matter.. throw it out here!
