Okay, I know this may seem kind of random, but how many people out there just love this game? Its always been one of my top five to get, and I'm always on a quest to find one. I mean, from the gameplay to the unique cabinet to the sideart, what's not to love? Just curious as to what you guys think.

Probably in my top 10 favorite list...or close to it.

Great game... great cab...

I think i've only ever played the real thing a few dozen times back in the day though. They weren't all too popular in the `cades back then.

It's a good game. It's got the music that sinks perfectly to the game play too. I'd only get one if it was free though, my space is limited to more unheard of games.

I know I would be willing to pay a reasonable amount money for one of these things, but I just haven't found any locally yet... I really hope one pops up before I leave for college!

I've not played an original, but it does get some play on the 48n1 and I just picked up a Namco Classics 1 JAMMA board (Galaga, Zevious & Mappy), so I will need to plug it in and see if it is better/worse than the multicade version.

Mappy fan here as well. Namco knew how to make a cool game.

It's really all I play on my Arcadeshop board. No dedicated cab yet for me. Luckily I know two locals who have it.

I know that autumn green has been trying to sell his Mappy for a loonng time now. He's in tucson, far as I know.

I believe it's working, but the cab has half and half side art. All the problems from the pictures he's sent me looks all fixable.

Someone please send him a PM to buy it. I'm getting tried of seeing it up on craigslist almost every week. ;)

It's funny, I was thinking about posting about this game today.

I was thinking about how many of us have played all of the classics for years and years, and then one day we learn something new about a game that totally changes the way we play.

As most of us learned how to play these by either experimentation (which quickly lost most of your quarters) or by watching others play (to learn the tricks or objective), if we didn't know about it beforehand, we might never learn about.

Just recently, I discovered that - in Mappy - not only could you open doors without being next to them, but you could also CLOSE normal doors that had already been opened! How many times have I played this game in MAME or multis and not known this? Perhaps the instructions on the original explain this - maybe not - but as I don't recall seeing one in forever, I never knew. My strategy has completely changed with this knowledge, and my scores have gone up accordingly...

It seems a little cutesy to me, but Mappy is a very challenging game. I don't really see it on my want list but if the opportunity came along, I would probably snap one up.

Shit, I didn't know either of those things until I just read your message!

Love the game. Hard to believe it bombed so badly back in the day. Bally/Midway wanted to license another game from Namco for the U.S. market and Namco gave them their choice between two new games they had designed, Mappy or Pole Position. Bally/Midway went with Mappy and Atari got the leftovers. Pole Position, a rather overrated game in my opinion (both then and now) went on to be the top earner of 1982 while Mappy did so badly that the remaining cabs were turned into Jr. Pac-Man at the factory. Go figure.

Mappy is one of my all-time favs. I had one years ago. I wouldn't mind having one again. I occasionally play it on MAME and on the multi at a local bar.

Not only can you CLOSE the doors... if you time them right, you can close them on the enemies and they will be knocked down and stunned for a couple seconds...allowing you to walk through them without dying.
