So I Mame'd my Vs. SMB (don't worry, very tastefully done), and for a while now, the RED on the monitor has been intermittent. I did the usual swapping of color transistors on the neck with no joy. I started thinking of the worst...bad RED gun. I grabbed a space LCD to plug the VGA (via ArcadeVGA card) into and I had all the colors so I knew is wasn't a problem with the VGA cable or the computer.

Only thing left was the video amp that converts the 1vdc output of the video card to 5vdc so you don't have to max out your brightness/contrast/screen adjustments. I began thinking that the amp might be bad, so I removed it and just wired the CGA wires directly to the VGA connector. RED CAME BACK! That led me to believe the amp was bad. I wanted to verify one last time, so I reinstalled it and I STILL had my RED! I have since figured out that the RED wire was not properly seated in the amp, causing intermittent RED. What's strange is that when I would wiggle or mess with the RED wire, it would not come and go.

Long story long, re-seating the RED wire in the Ultimarc Video Amp fixed my issue. It was more of a headache than it may seem. Glad it's fixed. Just wanted to share.

the worst problems are always the most satisfying when fixed.
